Gender Neutrality Essays

Gender neutrality : Language and other social institutions should avoid distinguishing people by their gender, in order to avoid discrimination arising from the impression that there are social roles for which one gender is more suited than the other. A common example occurs in the opposition to gender-specific job titles such as stewardess and policeman in favor of terms that do not convey gender such as flight attendant and police officer.
Grammatically, gender-neutral language (such as gender neutrality in English) is exemplified by the use of a gender-neutral pronoun, although this is sometimes confused with the neuter grammatical gender. Proponents of gender neutrality may support public policies designed to eliminate gender distinctions, such as favoring same-sex marriage on the belief that society should not limit the roles of husband or wife based on gender. Other controversial views may include support of gender-neutral toilets, with public restrooms being available without distinguishing the gender of the person using them.
However, it has been observed that gender neutrality in the law has changed the nature of custody disputes, making it less likely that women will be awarded custody of their children in the event of a divorce. How can we create a gender neutral society: Swedish society was the very first society to create gender neutrality . Then, other cultures also tried to adopt this approach also like English and African cultues Recently, the country of Sweden created a new entry in their National Encyclopedia. The new word “hen”, which is referring to “people” rather than to a specific sex of people like male or female or boy and girl.
Also University of Oklohama adapted gender free housing where students can live together as roommates but this step proved quite controversial. We can implement gender neutral environment by upbringing our kids into surroundings where girls and boys are equally channeled to do everything. For example if a girl wants to play football no will push her aback and even if a boy wants to cook food or to have a hold on house that will be acceptable. We can also banish gender inequality by altering the roles of husband wife i. e there will be then no gender specific task remain for girls and boys.
A society where men can do jobs which are mostly assigned to women and vice versa. Advantages of gender free society: We can exceptionally smell the advantages of gender neutral society in our daily lives. It will make cities, towns a better place to live in. In a gender free society girls and boys both are opted to same and equal opportunities. Where girls and boys can equally share economic, social, personal burdens and pressures. This will reduce sexual discrimination, sexual harassment which is infact been a cancer to society from thousands of decades.
There will be a friendly atmosphere in houses, schools, offices. No more superiority of males will be in power. Girls and boys are more likely to do what they actually want. Disadvantages of gender free society: If there are many advantages or positive points of gender free society the good points also accompany fallacious sectors which are unacceptable by the people in a society. As we all know, that a society is a combination of many factors for example religion, politics, culture etc. Gender neutrality is not acceptable first of all by religion.
In divine theories and in theology males are always kept on a higher place than females. So, religion can never be able to perceive a gender free society. On the other hand economically males are supposed to be wiser than females so, there also this concept is a bit controversial. Now coming to household women are considered to be more efficient in handling household matters. Politically even thou, there is always a trend to scream louder for justice and equal place of gnder but practically we cannot avoid this concept.
Even if we are in any society any place we are inclined to perceive and think about gender. Conclusion: According to me even if we try our level best to create gender neutral society and implement gender neutrality it is next to impossible to do so in any society. Its not because we are outdated and backward the reason is that we live in a world where religion, culture, media matters a lot and we can not separate ourselves from these factors. So, it islong way to go still to establish a gender free society.
