No Child Left Behind Essays

                                               No Child Left Behind

Education is light – a light that make you see properly and removes the veil of illiteracy. Being educated makes you enlightened, gives you an edge in the society. Apart from this, education keeps you updated and enables you relevant in an ever changing world. Surviving in the society requires knowledge and development of skills. In our world today, the importance of education can not be overemphasized. Any government that is concerned about the future should have as a major priority the education of its citizens. An understanding of this fact is what has made the government to make an Act called the “No Child Left Behind Act”.
The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is an act that is made by the America government in their bid to eradicate illiteracy in every community. The Act is a radical move targeted at less developed communities, children in public schools, special children and the less privileged whose parents might not be able to afford the tuition of private schools. Thus, the government heavily funds these schools so as to ensure the smooth running of these public schools.
However, the success of the program lies in the bosom of the parents. It makes no real difference if the government is funding these schools but the parents are not awake to their responsibilities. To start with, the Act revolves around the parent as the parents are brought in a lot of way. Unlike before, they have the opportunity to choice the school their kids attend and if they consider that the school is not good enough, they can transfer their child to another. The parents also hold the responsibility of making sure that their children are learning. This is done by the use of report cards which are meant to be supervised by the parents. Apart from this, parents are mandated to make sure that their children get early to school, engage them in discussion about school and what happened after each day, create an atmosphere for reading in their homes and encourage learning at home. The parents can demand free extra classes or tutoring for their children as well as participate in ways they think they can make the school where their children attend better.
Summarily, to reiterate the importance of the role that parents play in the success of the program, it is worth noting that reference is made to the parents over 240 times in the law.
