After learning the 7 habits of highly effective teen of the famous author, Sean Covey, from reading the book, doing a presentation, and as well as watching its video that interpret directly by Sean covey, I have learned clearly about how to process my whole life to become success person that starts to set up my principle of 7 habits and then practice it daily. It guided me why do I have to set up principles and what is the principle of my life?

Principles are the center that puts all areas of life in perspective. No time can change the principle. Program changes, Practice changes, Principles do not change. It means that when you set up my principle and then my principle will lead me in my whole life from day to day and it not change even though you met the bad storm of your life such as the studying problem, family situation, poor economic, gender bias, and many and many issues that always stay around you and if you don’t have a clear principle, those storms will throw your life into their way that you will become the person just live and follow the bad storm life you met, but you have a clear principle, your principle will push you from the bad happened to you and lead you to the what you set up first.

Setting the bad principle will lead you into a bad life, but setting the good 7 habit principle, will lead you to be a good successful person.

What is the 7 habits principle? 7 habits principle is the principle that you have set up with 7 habits and then it will lead you in the whole life. 7 habits will you to what goal you expect to, how to develop you to be better, and how to become more effective. As the one quote said, “Sow a thought, reap an action; Sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow the character, reap a destiny.”

Habit has three intersections, the first, Knowledge, the component that told us what and why to do it, the second, Skill, which is the practical part of how to do it, and the last one, Desire, how motivated, want to do it. The 7 habits principles start from:

The first habit is, Be proactive, it mean that your life is the product of your value, not your feeling, your life or organization’s life is the product of your decision, not your condition. The opposite of proactive is reactive that means your life is the function of feeling. Proactive persons who respond and consider what they are doing. For example, when you failed your exam or you get a low grade, the proactive person considered that how and why they achieved and they figure out the mistake and solve it from I don’t study hard, smart, or other, but reactive person, they just blame that it is because of teacher, or friend, or times that make them got this result. Reactive never and never take responsibility for the actions that they have done. Proactive is the first basic habit that breaks to catch up with other next habits.

The second habit is to begin with the end in mind. It means all things are created twice – you get a mental image, a picture, or where you won’t end up in the meeting, in the relationship, in your whole life. The opposite of beginning with the end in mind is beginning with no end in mind that means you don’t know where to end and you don’t know what are doing. This habit is the principle of vision, and purpose.

It shows you the goal of your life and what is your personal statement in your life. It is the sign or pathway that you must walk to get success like studying, doctor, engineer, or teacher. If you have no goal or you don’t know which or where you must end up in your life, it like paddling the boat without the map and you will be flowed by bad life air.

The third habit is to put first things first. It is the second creation or physical creation. You decide what the first things were and commit to keeping them first. The opposite of putting first things first is putting second, third, or fourth things first. We must set the time schedule like quadrants what is the important and urgent things like submitting assignment tomorrow, we practice it first, Important and not urgent things like a mid-term exam, we put it in the second.

Not important and urgent things like not important call phone, or meeting, we take in the third. Not important and not urgent things like watching TV, or playing games so on, we put in the last. Put first things first give us a clear schedule plan for your daily, monthly, yearly, and whole life activities.

The first three habits above are called private victory because it is victory over self, it is a soft control. It’s the habits that start from you and control by yourself and those habits have to lead us from dependence to independence.

The fourth habit is to think win-win. It is an attitude toward life, a mental frame of mind that says I can win, and so can you. The opposite of thinking win-win is to think win-lose that is you can get only yourself and never share with others.

This habit lets have the perspective to get together. For instance, you know the solution of math exercise and you teach this solution to your friend or your classmate and if you don’t know, so you must ask your friend or classmate to teach you. Think win-win is the culture of sharing what you have with other or societies and get what new things from others or societies.

The fifth habit is to seek first to understand than to be understood. It means you must understand first before you take action, judge, or reply to any things. The opposite of this habit is to seek first to talk, pretend to listen. Like teaching, you can teach as long as you understood the lesion clearly. If you don’t understand how can you teach others?

The sixth habit is synergizing. It is the habit of cooperation. The principle of this habit is one plus one can equal three, four, ten, twenty, or a thousand. The opposite of this habit is don’t cooperate. This habit let us work together in teamwork to achieve the team goal even we come from different countries, race, political, or religious perspectives.

Like a football team, your whole team will win the match even you are the defender, you are the mild fielder, or you are center forward when you work together the defender tries to defend, mild fielder, try to serve for center forward to find the goals for the team to win the match. It’s not my goal or your goal, but it’s our team’s goals.

The second three habits are called publish victory because of their effect on the others, they are based on teamwork, cooperation, and communication and it leads us from independence to interdependence.

The last seventh habit is sharpening the saw. This renews us regularly. It keeps yourself sharp so that you can be a better deal with life through four dimensions, brain (learn the new skill and read the book so on), heart (build a relationship, keep a promise, and be honest so on), body (do exercise, eat health food, sleep enough, and avoid alcohol and drug), and soul (meditating, serving other, go for walks, and praying). The opposite of this habit is to wear yourself out.

In brief, 7 habit habits principle is very important for people, especially tee or adults in studying age that sometimes they just learn, live, or studying without planning or goal in their life and often they changed and flew from the bad storm life because they have no clear principle in their life. If you have the principle, is like you have a map that shows you which way you must walk to get what you want in your life and it is the guide the told you when you are out of your way or your goal.

So students, especially university student must have their principle in their studying as well as the future whole life by choosing the right major you prefer and good at, studying hard and smart, sharing and exchange with your classmates, friends, and communities, and checking it regularly what level of you or which place you stand for. Without principle, you just live and follow the storm that occurred to you every time, every day.
