When regarding what’s really healthy or not people have a lot of different ideas about following the rules of being healthy and what foods are healthy to eat. But a lot of the times those healthy foods are really bad for you. When most people consider making modifications toward a healthier lifestyle, they look to give changing up their diet as the first priority. Maybe people do that because they believe that eating habits are easier to come by, but eating well isn’t usually that simple as its sometimes given out to be.
There are a lot of health myths out there that will make a lot of dieters confused, particularly if you’re just going out on an eating healthy journey. Healthy eating means picking all natural foods from the basic food groups of meats, dairy, fruits, vegetables and grains cutting off most of the sweets and fats. The first step in eating healthy is to know the good fats from the bad fats.
Fats are another vital part to a healthy diet. Once you know what to eat, now you have to consume the correct portions of such or not as much of something that is bad. One of the biggest problems with eating healthy is to know when you have had enough. Not knowing when to stop can result in one developing an eating disorder. There are many types of eating disorders. The main two types of eating disorders people get from excessive eating is obesity and anorexia. Obesity is a disease of excess fat tissue in the body, or when someone eats too much. Anorexia is when someone who has a low self-esteem and often a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions by consuming as little food as possible. Although exercising is good for combating obesity, making good eating choices can help combat obesity. In addition to watching your calories intake, there are several ways eating healthy can be beneficial to escaping obesity.
For example, eating breakfast daily can provide us with energy to burn the calories that we will intake throughout the day. Eating smaller, low calorie meals throughout the day can help instead of eating three large meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner. A food that Is tricky in which you have to be careful about having too much or too little much of is sugars and carbs. Good and bad carbs are hard to label. That is because just because a food contains sugars does not mean that it is bad. Sugar is a natural part of your diet. The thing that dietitians warn people about are the processed sugars. Therefore, food with processed sugar and artificial sweeteners are bad due to the lack of nutrients provided. Just because a food is listed as zero-calories, or sugar-free it doesn’t mean that it’s good for our bodies. Most of the diet products and sugar-free products contain artificial sweeteners which trick your taste buds, and actually increase sugar cravings, says Eliza Whetzel, a Registered Dietitian at Middleberg Nutrition, in New York City. Not to mention, we don’t fully know the effect these chemicals have on our body. Regularly eating too much sugar in your diet could lead to higher than normal level of insulin in your blood and in the long term, this will interfere with proper hormone signaling in the brain including signaling of our hunger hormones. In fact, in long-term studies, people who have consumed artificial sweeteners end up gaining weight and belly fat! Moreover, artificial sweeteners are synthetic chemical creations that are viewed as food additives. They may be generally regarded as safe, but controversy has always followed, especially around their possible link to cancer.
Even when it comes to the milk we consume, it’s better to choose 2% or full fat dairy products. ‘People think that skim milk is better than whole, but when the fat is taken out, sugar is generally added in. Everyone gets busy, and sometimes meals aren’t a priority. However, not eating and skipping meals in an attempt to lose weight or eat less could be a detriment to your healthy eating goals. Many people think that salads are always the better option. But did you know that the toppings and dressings can sometimes be more caloric than a whole sandwich? Broccoli is a superfood that is packed with potent antioxidants known to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, but when eaten in very large amounts, broccoli may lead to hypothyroidism which is low thyroid. This is because they contain thiocyanates, which can make it difficult for your body to absorb iodine. In most cases, this may be the end goal people have in mind, but you need to consider the idea that eating ‘fatty foods’ isn’t always bad for you. ‘Eating fat does not make you fat.
We need fat in our diets to keep our brains healthy, protect our organs, carry fat-soluble vitamins into and around the body. With that in mind, fat shouldn’t be eliminated from your diet rather it should be consumed in moderation. Additionally, not all fats are equal – plant based fats like olive oils and those from nuts are unsaturated and linked to heart health. Limit your intake of animal based saturated fats as they have a higher association with heart disease when over-consumed. While the fat may be reduced or taken out, sugar and sodium are often added in to maintain flavor. Getting back to the so called healthy foods diet soda is one that many get confused for being healthy as it contains those processed sugars that I talked about earlier in which some may say lead to you craving more sugar and possible cancer.
As you can see eating healthy is not always good and easy as it seems to be. People struggle every day with trying to maintain a good diet and also trying to learn what’s a good way to diet. The so called healthy foods are not always good for you and sometimes can lead to the thing that you are running away from which is gaining weight or just being un healthy period.
