One of the main concerns is that animal testing is unethical. Researchers have pointed out that the animals that are not killed during the testing are held in captivity where they may be injured and have to endure pain as a result. Another concern is that animals do not have a say in the testing, whereas human beings could voice their concerns.
Many of these tests are also inaccurate considering the stress that the animals are under. This stress might include them being held in a cage or possibly from transportation issues. It is important to consider stress because many drugs tested on animals react differently when a body is under stress.
Another major issue is that animal testing is extremely expensive. By the time all of the costs for housing, caring, and storing of the animal are considered, one has a sizable dollar amount to be accounted for. To add further costs, many of these animals that are used for testing are often acquired from special breeding facilities which sell the animals at a high price.
Overall, animal testing is not a good choice. While one might argue for the benefits of this type of research, there are too many negatives to warrant this type of testing. Animals deserve the voice of humans to understand their suffering and to say “No” to forcing them into these situations. Humans need to find other avenues for testing.
