Today there are more and more reports of dirty dinning in so many fast food restaurants - China Buffet vs. Burger King introduction. Any time a person decides to eat out in any type of fast food restaurant they are taking a big risk, and stand a chance of getting sick from the food that they eat.
All fast food restaurants have their own little dirty secrets. Some are clean whereas some are filthy and should be shut down. There are several shows on television today that show how nasty some restaurants can be, and why they have to shut them down. There are two Restaurants that need to be shut down until they can get everything straightened out. One is China Buffet in Cincinnati. The other is Burger King.

It is not always easy to judge a book by its cover. The same things apply to restaurants as well. In Cincinnati the Chinese restaurant was located in a decent enough building yet they had so many problems that once the Health Department shut them down the owners never reopened. This was once a very busy restaurant just imagine how many customers ate dirty food.
Although Burger King is located in a new building and always have built their own restaurants, they are still serving dirty, unsanitary food to their customers. NBC placed hidden cameras inside of these restaurants and witnessed firsthand how all of the employees prepare ready to eat food with their bare hands. The kitchen sink for the employees does not have any soap or paper towels, which means that the employees are not washing their hands before touching the customer’s food. This can result in a lot of different illnesses, one being salmonella poisoning.
Outside of appearances there are also dress codes that are not being followed. Employees should wear hair nets, gloves, and aprons while preparing your food. As well as slip resistant tennis shoes. There are still some employees where house shoes to work.
Upon watching the hidden cameras NBC noticed that employees were wearing their hair down without a hair net and they would swing their hair around, and play with their hair while standing over the stove.
The Chinese restaurant also violated a list of rules such as employees not washing their hands before preparing food. They also got cited for having food sitting on the floor next to roach spray and other unknown chemicals. A lot of Chinese restaurants like to have their food, such as sesame chicken, and general Tso’s chicken on the floor next to the stove for easy access.
All restaurants have a hard time keeping their dishes clean. They try to go cheap and save money, so they do not have enough soap or bleach in their dishwasher. They also have their silverware in the bottom of a bucket of leftover food and garbage before they rinse it off in the dishwasher. This also produces and spreads bacteria that can make a customer sick enough to go to a hospital.
Silverware can be found under the tables, in the garbage can, or stuck down in the bottom of the dishwasher, or can be used to scratch the employee’s hair or back. Plates always end up in the garbage can as well. Pots and pans do not get very clean because of lazy employees. Sometimes food can get dropped on the floor and employees just pick it up and serve it anyways. This is not good at all.
Buffet restaurants have so many germs floating around the food. Not only do the employees not wash their hands, but the customers do not wash their hands either. So many customers will stand right over the food coughing, and sneezing, without covering their mouths. Kids play over everything using their hands to pick out whatever they want to eat. Women and children with long hair stand over the buffet line playing with their hair. Kids lay across the bar in order to reach the food they want because the parents do not feel like getting up to help them.
Many times customers get sick from unclean restaurants due to cross contamination. Cooked food can grow bacteria if it is not kept at the correct temperature. There have been many reported cases of raw food being stored with cooked food. This can also result in the growth of bacteria. All restaurants are responsible for their employees being taught the correct way to cook or prepare food. Their employees should be certified in the safe serve classes. One reason that Chinese restaurants are not certified in safe serve is because they do not take the courses before or after they open their restaurants.
As far as Burger King is concerned they do not require their employees to be trained or certified. They always hire young teenagers to work in their restaurants. Young people do not care or think about cleanliness of the food or restaurant. They are only concerned with making a paycheck and going home. When employees do not care about their restaurant they tend to make mistakes that can cause customers to get sick. There have been reports of children getting so sick that they almost died after eating at Burger King.
China Buffet was closed down because of sewage backing up in the basement of the restaurant, and for storing chemicals such as, roach spray, ant spray, and cleaning chemicals, right next to the food. They also got in trouble for not having any soap or bleach for cleaning and sanitizing the restaurant. The owners decided not to reopen the restaurant because it would cost too much money to fix all of the problems that were found during the inspection. It was cheaper for them to just open up another restaurant. The difference between Chinese restaurants and Burger King Restaurants is that Chinese restaurant owners usually like to rent older building in order to save a little money. Whereas Burger king usually builds their own buildings, therefor they are new and should be easier to keep clean.
Burger king was served with citations due to the employees not being clean enough. They did not have any soap or paper towels in the employee sinks. As a result the employees were not washing their hands nor were they wearing any gloves. They were not closed down because they were able to fix the problems that were found during the inspection.
All restaurants should make sure they pass all inspections without having a government official come in to tell them what all is wrong with their restaurant. This is the manager’s job to make sure that everything is going smoothly and that they do not have any critical violations on a daily bases. Most restaurants run around trying to hide all of the things that they know the inspector will check for. This is how they get away with a lot of things that they are doing wrong. They should make sure that all of the things they try to hide from the inspector are taken care of daily not just when they are being inspected.
In conclusion, everyone should try and eat at home more often. If you have to eat out check the health department rating on the wall. Also check the date of the certificate in order to see if it is an old A or a new A. Most restaurants will not post a bad rating on their walls. They will keep the good grade up and hide the bad so customers will still keep coming. Also watch how your food is prepared. Make sure that the person handling your food is wearing gloves. They are required by law to wear gloves at all times and to change their gloves when switching between activities. For instance, If the employees are washing tables or counters with the proper chemicals, they should change their gloves before touching your food.
