Marc-Antoine (Abbe) Laugier on the other hand (January 22, 1713, Manosque, Provence – April 5, 1769, Paris) was a Jesuit high priest and architectural philosopher.

In his further main treatise, the Parere sull’architettura (Observations on Architecture, 1765), he backed a creative use of very old Roman models to create a new approach of structural design. Only one structure was ever erected to his designs, the quite nondescript church of S. Maria del Priorato, Rome.
