Begona Aretxaga reviews the problems and promise of feminist change in Northern Ireland with the start of the “Troubles” in the start of the 1969 civil rights movement. She views the kinship of power and politics through the entanglement of gender, class, republican nationalism, and colonialism. The place of working-class women in the Irish republican conflict has been both suppressed and misrecognized, not only in terms of their genuine participation, but also in terms of how their experience set-up the politics of the struggle both directly and indirectly.
