Broadly, there are two categories of evaluation methods, which include qualitative methods, and quantitative methods.  The qualitative method of is usually descriptive in nature, where evaluation of performance is analysed based on previous derived results. Hence, the data analyses using qualitative evaluation method are based on parameters derived from previous evaluation and conclusion reached in similar subject matter. According to Michael (2002, pg 20), “qualitative evaluation method responds to open-ended questions while quantitative measurement is based on scales composed of standardized questionnaires items”

Qualitative evaluation do not use statistical tool for evaluating actual performance, but depends on descriptions of derived data against other previous results.

On the other hand a quantitative evaluation method makes use of statistical tool in analysing the variables for data under investigation. Such statistical tools as Chi-square, analysis of variance, Correlation and regression analyses, exponential smoothing techniques are veritable tools for conducting a quantitative evaluation. The mass of data that is available to be accessed to researcher and business analysts leaves them to choose a method that would be more adequate. While qualitative methods saves many paper works on calculation and analyses with data, quantitative analysis is more legible for case study analyses and experimental paradigm for program evaluation (Cook & Reichardt 1979).

 In using quantitative evaluation method sequential steps of statistical analyses is required. Hence, conclusion on the evaluation is derived based on the final result derived from the statistical test. The advantage of using a quantitative evaluation is its accuracy of estimation on which conclusion is derived. Hence, we say the validity of data measurement tool using the quantitative evaluation method is high and to a greater extent more accurate and dependable than when using a qualitative evaluation method.

On the other hand, a quantitative method of data analysis requires someone that is skillful in statistics and has good judgement for reading derived result from data. In this case, qualitative evaluation method is easy to conduct and require less of statistical understanding to derived conclusion to data that are being evaluated.
