Corruption, often taken as the abuse of office for private gain is a persistent feature of human society. Nigeria with its rather unfair share of the canker worm has as its greatest threat the endemic and malignant nature of corruption. You bribe to get your child into a school, you pay to secure a job and you also continue to pay in some cases to retain it. corruption indeed is a bane of any nation.
This research work discuses the possible causes of corruption in addition to its effect which seems to rooted in socio- cultural practices and the political and economic realities of Nigeria.
Secondary data such as news stories, reports and records of tribunals, transparency international, Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission etc were solely employed considering the abundance of such in addition to constraints of time. This research work further explores strategic measures in the management of this social problem. it identifies structured educational programmes, intelligence report and gathering, population and house delineation, effective arrest and efficient prosecution of suspects among others as a means of tackling the menace of corruption in Nigeria.
This research work concludes that if certain reforms viz educational, institutional are not made, corruption is likely to continue rear its ugly head regardless of concerted effort aimed at curtailing it.
