While the performance seemed simple, without needing any backdrop or props, it spoke of great complexity. It does not only convey the need to act for world peace, it also presented to the world the need to practice true freedom. True freedom in the sense that people go back to basics, return to nature, throw out the artificial and give back to mother nature. It also relayed to the audience that there is a need to go past commercialism and the norms, and learn to live for themselves, to practice individuality.
Frankly, I would want to join in the cutting ass it will represent my desire for freedom both on the personal and social aspect of my life. Cutting the clothes of Yoko Ono will symbolize how I want world peace, freedom of nature, and people to be concerned about the more important things in life.
2. Has feminism changed? : In looking at the work produced by artists who consider themselves feminists, how do you think this movement has changed since its beginnings in the 1970s? Are you surprised by the Guerrilla Girls most recent ad?
Feminism did not change in that those who are joining it is still fighting for the same cause. The advocacy remains as it was during the 1970’s. However, the women who are fighting for it have become more aggressive. This probably because these days, women are really more powerful than they were in the 1970’s. The confidence have been boosted and thus activities which will truly draw attention to what they are fighting for are being employed.
I was not surprised by the new advertisement, but it was not exactly something I expected. As I said, women today are more confident and takes pride on herself. Thus, drastic ads like that are not too surprising anymore.
