BABALOLA OLUWAKEMI 11/15/2012 2,1 HGN21HQL Life changed dramatically between paleolithic and neolithic times. Neolithic life changed through agriculture because through agriculture people could farm instead of gathering and hunting while Paleolithic life changed through technology and religion. Paleolithic and Neolithic have so many differences and similarities.
To begin with, the differences between Paleolithic and Neolithic times is that Paleolithic uses biconical bone point, perigordian flint blade, prismatic blade core, soluterean willow leaf point, double row harpoon point as their tool kit while neolithic uses sheet with two hatchets, chisels in sheet, and horn hoe as their tool kit (document 1) .
One of the differences is that Paleolithic “tool kit” is for haunting while Neolithic “tool kit” is for clearing land and farming. One of the main differences between the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods was in the main method people used to acquire food.
In the Paleolithic, anatomically modern humans and their ancestors were mainly nomadic hunter gathers, which by then Neolithic people had developed farming, allowing them to live in settlement such as villages and towns.
Diet also changed as a result of people eating more cereals and other farmed crops. Compared to the Neolithic, the Paleolithic people had less technology, they used basic stone, bone, antler tools and development such as art and other forms of higher culture only occur in the later stage of the Paleolithic.
The differences between the paleolithic and neolithic period is that the the neolithic period is the new stone age, it covers the period about 9000 to 3500 BC, from which archaeologist have found polished stone tools, pottery, weaving, and evidence of live stock rearing, agriculture , and megaliths(huge stone constructions such as stone age) while the Paleolithic period from about 2 million BC to 10000 BC is called the old stone age, it was time when humans used flint, stone, and bone tools, and found their food by hunting, fishing and foraging plant foods .
Paleolithic tools were heavy, crude and blunt, Neolithic tools were sharper ,lighter, of better utility and more of variety and polished. The dwellings of paleolithic man were caves or skin tents, Neolithic made house of mud, wood and thatch. The diet of paleolithic man consisted of meat and food, gathered trees and shrubs; like fruit, berries, and wild grains. Neolithic man diary product like milk, cheese, meat and a variety of edible grains wheat, barley and rice. nother differences in paleolithic and neolithic is that cloths from paleolithic man were made out of animal skins and leaves, Neolithic man made cloths of cotton and wool. In the paleolithic age there was no specialization of occupation, in Neolithic age there was division of labor and some specialization occupation so that there was more variety of crafts like carpentry, weaving, pottery.
To continue, the similarities between the paleolithic and neolithic is that they both have tool kit, they were hunters, they were two stone age. One of the similarities between paleolithic and neolithic is patriarchy, and division of labor they both used tools and they are from the same time. The paleolithic and neolithic culture can also be compared in so many ways because the paleolithic culture was a gateway for the neolithic era
