Graduation Day - Family Essay Example
Graduation day is what all high school students are waiting for, the big day we all think as grown people and we’ve made the right decisions because of how far we’ve gotten - Graduation Day introduction. Graduation was one of my of my most memorable moments in my life, it’s like a new start to my future. We all come to think college is the next step to our pathway and we all mainly do it for a better future, but most importantly to make our parents and family proud, and to me it seems like education is your number one priority and with out it who can you become? My grandparents were my biggest reason to keep pushing forward and accomplish all my hard work I put into my education. My grandparents get serious when it comes to school and they’ve always said they liked to see each and one of there grandchildren graduate. I grew up with my grandparents and we lived under the same roof at a point in time and I learned so much from them and I felt our bond got a lot stronger.
A night before graduation, I received a call from my grandmother. She called to say they wouldn’t be able to attend my graduation ceremony. The year I graduated I had another cousin who was also graduating, but from a different school. My grandparents chose to attend my cousins ceremony rather than mine, I’m sure they wished to attend both graduations because both of their granddaughters were just as important to them, but at that moment I only thought it was fair for them to come to my ceremony because for that same reason, I knew this could happen, and I wanted to be the first one to ask them to assist in my graduation rather than hers. And at that moment I was only thinking for myself, which was selfish in a way, but then again I didn’t care.

I felt horrible when she called to say they wouldn’t be able to attend my ceremony. They have influenced me so much through out my years, just as well as my parents has. To them it is important to see all there grandchildren graduate and walk the stage. I remember well when I was little, my grandparents would tell us about their childhood and they would always tell how difficult they had it. At their time it was hard to get an education because of always being so tight on money, and back then education wasn’t as important as it is now, and they just want the best for us, they’ve always given us the positive side of things, and for me they’ve impacted my life a whole lot. I know they just want the best for me and everyone else’s they care and love for.
Therefore it was important for me to see them the day of my graduation. At the moment I understood what my grandparents were probably going through, they had the hardest decision to make, because I knew it was just as important as it was to us to see them there. It was six- thirty and my graduation ceremony had started. All students were in the gym lined up ready to walk out. I was a bit sad because I knew I wouldn’t see my grandparents there, but as hard as I tried not to let it get to me, the feeling was still there. As we were walking out, all graduates were going to their assigned seats and as I was heading to my seat, I see my grandpa standing next to my mom, cheering me on. I couldn’t stop smiling, it was the best feeling, I don’t think any other happiness can top it off.
As soon as the ceremony ended, all graduates threw our caps in the air, I couldn’t believe it, I was finally done with high school, all my hard work paid off. I felt like a grown woman ready to become independent. We then went out to our family and I gave my grandpa the biggest, tightest, hug ever. I was so happy to see him there, and it was a relief to share such a great experience with him. He then told me how proud he was and how lucky he was he got to see another grandchild walk the stage. I asked if my grandma had shown up as well, but he told me the only fair solution they had come up with was if one of them came to my ceremony and the other had gone to my cousins.
We then arrived at my grandparent’s home and they had surprised my cousin and me with a graduation party. It was something we both didn’t see coming, but at the same time we felt grateful for having such a wonderful family to organize something for us. Most of the family was there and we had a few other friends who had graduated with our class over. As the night came to an end, my grandparents pulled my cousin and me aside, and they asked what were our plans now that we have graduated. This was something that would always run through my head and I would always question it.
What are my plans after I graduate? Where do I even begin? I was just too afraid to answer wrong but then we both replied saying we were going off to college. They then told us they were happy with our decision and told us to get to where we want to be probably wont be as easy, but with determination you can get to where you want to be. We had the support from our grandparents, they told us they will always stand by our side and support us with any decision we may make. I will never forget my grandparent’s words, who better then them to tell you? And from this day forward I look back and I start to think without my parents and grandparents support I don’t know where id be standing.
