Good morning, I am honored to be here today on this occasion to learn about healthy lifestyles awareness. Similarly you should also be honored to learn about these issues and stay life longer in this wonderful world. Before I start my speech, let me tell you how serious the chronic diseases happen in your surroundings. According to Health Ministry recently revealed there are around 2. 6million Malaysians who suffer from diabetes – which makes 1 in 5 people have diabetes. While, more than 50% of Malaysian either overweight or obese.
Until today, heart diseases still remain number one killer in Malaysia. According Consultant cardiologist and Malaysian Heart Foundation director Datuk Dr Khoo said just now, one out of three Malaysians suffered from hypercholesterolemia. So, put on your thinking cap: try to asking yourself, have you been on healthy diets? Have you gotten sufficient rest each day? Or even have you been performing healthy lifestyle by doing sport regularly? Your answer lies with yourself. The key massage I want to share with you today is that we all need to modify our behaviors in order to be healthy and to live long.
Healthy living is about adopting right behavioral practices such as healthy eating, physical activity and practicing safe sex. We need to also stop smoking and alcohol abuse. First, we must do regular exercise at least three days a week. Exercise benefits every part of the body, including the mind. Exercise help in improving one’s stamina, physical strength, reduce stress and sleep better. During exercise, our body will able to take more oxygen and increasing metabolism for healthier cells.
Regular exercise can protect your heart, keep blood pressure and cholesterol levels healthy, maintain a healthy body weight, and protect against diabetes. All of these issues are risk factors for suffering a stroke, so exercise also helps to protect against stroke. Exercise also helps tp protect against depression, and helps you better manage stress. Any sport distracts you because it helps you not to think about school, friends, problems, among other things. It brings you time to think about yourself and no one else. It helps your mind busy and to avoid dangerous habits like drugs.
Therefore, we can maintain our healthy lifestyle by exercising more often. Ladies and gentlemen are you have healthy eating hobbits and what is healthy eating? Healthy eating means consuming the right quantities of foods from all food groups in order to lead a healthy life. This mean balanced diet. A balance diet must consist of all seven classes of food on their tight proportions including carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals, fats, fiber and water. Avoid eating too much sweet or salty food, because of the excessive salt and sugar content in food product will cause diabetes and high blood pressure.
Moreover, I believe many of us here enjoyed Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas parties. Especially the food and soft drink make you non-stop eating. Huge consumption of soft drinks and high fat foods will cause obesity because high in calories and sugar. So, think twice before you eat. If we do not abide by this rule, we may get sick easily. Not only that, we must have enough rest and sleep after we have done something strenuous. Enough rest and sleep for as long as eight hours will help us to recover energy that we have lost during the day.
In fact, once we recharge through enough rest and sleep, we can do our job or carry out daily routine vigorously. In addition to this, we should also get a hobby such as reading, playing chess, listening music and so on. We need to have a hobby for us to spend our times more productively instead of wasting time aimlessly. With hobbies, we can even find common grounds with our friends to share and enjoy together. Furthermore, we must have a healthy social life. We can improve our social life by having friends to talk to spend our time with.
If we face any problems, we can have a friend to lean on. Get someone to talk to when you are under a lot stress and surely you can relieve your pressure that way more effectively than other way. Even though, the advancement of medical science and technology still has not been able to provide a solution to modern diseases. In fact, the numbers are becoming more shocking.
