In an unfair way that alters the truth. Things Fall Apart by China Achebe and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad both show different perspectives of the colonization of Africa. Due to the different viewpoints readers are unclear of what actually happened. Determining bias within a text is significant and unfortunately, both books did show an amazing amount of bias. Figuring out how much blast a text may have Is a very Important yet easy process. Here is a protocol for evaluating a piece of writing: 1.

Inflammatory language is used within the text. 2. The author tells only one side and purposely withholds information. 3. The author presents false evidence to present his or her view in a more positive light. 4. Makes claims that demean or elevate one group compared to another. 5. The purpose of why the author It. 6. The audience of the writing. This protocol Is used to determine the level of blast wealth the text. Determining blast Is Important because It lets the reader know that what they read may or may not be true. Also, because readers may not get the whole truth or the truth could be edified.

Going through a simple protocol can save readers from trusting a bias writing. Heart of Darkness is a very blast story about the Imperialism of Africa. Concord’s purpose for writing this story was to inform Europeans about the African colonization, but fails to show the Africans perspective. Throughout the novella many examples of bias occurred. For example, he uses inflammatory language when he compared the Africans to “dark things” and “red eyed devil” (Conrad 11). Furthermore, there are claims that elevate what the Europeans were doing is good and Justified. Was a part of the great cause of these high and Just proceedings” (Conrad 11). Let alone, there are also demeaning words to the Africans that call them creatures and unearthly with no differentiating characteristics. “Black shapes crouched, lay, sat between the trees, leaning against the trunks, clinging to the earth in all attitude of pain, abandonment, and despair they were nothing earthly now, nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation. One of these creatures rose to his hands and knees and went off on all fours towards the river to drink” (Conrad 17).

Lastly, false evidence is presented that make the Africans seem stupid and primitive. “l don’t thinks single one of them, had any clear Idea of time” (Conrad 26). In conclusion, Heart of Darkness shows a compelling amount of bias and is an inaccurate piece of writing. In addition, Things Fall Apart is also about the imperialism of Africa. Achebe’s purpose for writing this story was to counterattack Concord’s novella and show that Africans weren’t savages and had a civilized society. He does succeed In showing the bias also. In the first place, there is false evidence presented that make the

Europeans seem disruptive and destructive. “The elders consulted their oracle and it told them that the strange man would break their clan and spread destruction among them” (Achebe 120). Not only this but also as well as, demeaning words to Europeans that consider them slaves and foolish. “The white man has no sense. He is fit to be a slave” (Achebe 50). As well as this, there is even inflammatory language that deems the European as evil and harmful. “A great evil has come upon their land” (Achebe 121). Therefore, Things Fall Apart is as well a bias piece of writing that may or may not be considered valid. The stories are bias and figuring out that they are bias is very important because the text may not be true. A simple protocol could help readers determine bias and spare them from faulty information. Heart of Darkness is a very one-sided and prejudice story that elevates the Europeans and strongly demeans the Africans. However, Things Fall Apart doesn’t elevate Africans it does demean and present false evidence about the Europeans. Neither story can be considered a credible source due to the amount of bias in both stories. When bias is presented in story the information can be changed and not true.
