The Clean Water Act (CWA)is the cornerstone of surface water quality protection in the United States. The statute provides a lot of regulatory and non-regulatory tools to reduce direct pollution into waterways, and financing municipal wastewater treatment facilities. These tools are set to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological safety of the nation’s waters so that they can support “the protection and propagation of fish, shellfish, and wildlife and recreation in and on the water.”

Make-up. Now I never thought of the government having anything to do with
this but yet I’m surprised again. Cosmetic products are indeed regulated by FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). They are responsible for making sure that cosmetics are properly labeled and safe to use. Although, FDA does not approve cosmetics themselves, they do approve the colors that are added into the cosmetics. Cosmetic manufacturers have to ensure, before marketing their products, that the products they use are safe when used as directed under the customary conditions of use.

After I’ve dressed and my school things together, I eat breakfast. Cereal, oatmeal, or a bagel are usually my go-to quick meals. The FDA new Food Safety Modernization Act helps me to do that in a safe way. It gives FDA a new, better way to enhance mandates and authorities to promote public health and protect consumers.

Since I’m a communter, driving is a big part of my everyday life. Driving is a privilege not a right. If you disobey Missouri traffic laws, then your driving privileges can be taken away. The Department of Revenue goes by a point system when you are caught violating the Missouri driving law. The points are added to your record when the department receives notice that you were convicted of a certain violation while your vehicle was in motion. Points vary with each conviction, but recieving four or more within a year means getting a warning. Receiving eight or more with 18 months means having your driving privileges suspended. This is why I have to always abride by the rules associated with driving. If I don’t my privileges can be taken away, meaning I wouldn’t be able to drive to my necessary destinations.

While driving, I like to listen to the radio. Through the Federal Communications Commission, all stations are to be licensed and maintain a file that documents what the station has done to operate in the public interest. There are also radio regulations that help to make this possible. The Radio Regulations is an intergovernmental treaty. It conforms and coordinates the activity of the telecommunication networks. It keeps different frequences from different radio services from mixing together.
Transmitters are to be observed by radio stations, and procedures are done to ensure technical compatibility. It basically helps to better the development of communications technology. These regulations are accomplished through the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

When I drive, I’m usually headed to Webster University, to expand on my educational knowledge. Now, there are no laws that say I have to go to college, but there are laws that have made my college experience different yet I think better than lets say the 60’s.The first and fourteenth amendment to the Constitution, I think, are very important aspects of are education system. The first amendment guarantees me the right to freedom of assembly, press, religion and speech. It allows me to speak openingly about whatever I believe in. This is very important especially in college, because it’s a time where you are really trying to find yourself, and opening yourself up to new ideas. The fourteenth amendment concerns due process and equal protection clauses. The equal protection clause deals with issues such as ethnicity, race, sex, origin, anything having to do with discrimination. Because of this law, equality is a very important matter. Being able to mix within such a diverse university is definately an obvious change. Equality is enforced, but yet today not many people see it that way because it such a common thing.

Employers must pay covered employees, unless an exception has occured, at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay of one-and-one-half-times the regular rate of pay. I don’t get overtime pay, because they really don’t view it that way. If I work past my assigned hours, they still pay me the same amount hourly. Also the government requires us to pay taxes on things that are used in peoples everyday lives.
This includes things like schools, libraries, roads, and police and fire departments. Taxes also contribute to special programs like medicare, medicaid, social security and welfare. When I go shopping, there is always sales tax on everything you buy, unless it’s tax-free weekend. There is income tax on the money you make, as well as, property tax and other kinds of tax. There are two kinds of income taxes. There is federal and state income tax. State income tax goes directly to the state government you live. Some states do not charge income tax, but Missouri does. Federal income tax goes to the U.S. Government to help overall in the U.S. The U.S. Congress places a tax rate amount and chooses in different ways how to spend the federal tax money. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) collects the taxes. And at the beginning of every year, we get some of that tax money back.

After I get home from school or work, I do homework, and then I’m either watching tv or on the computer. Computer laws focus on my sure the computers contain secure and controlled information stored on and tranferred between computers. Computer networks contain a lot of private digital information. Financial information, internet usage, data on peoples identities, credit card information, and information about medical records, mailing lists, government secrets, and a lot more. It is illegal to acquire private information, manipulate any type of data to obtain funds illegally. This can be through identity theft, bank withdrawals, transfersand credit card use, and to access any of this data without authorization. There isn’t much censorship through the media anymore, but each television program has it’s own set of rules. For example, PBS station has more censorship requirements than HBO. You may have to pay more money for whatever you may want to see, but you can find just about anything on the computer or on TV. After this, I usually just go to sleep and start my day off all over again.
