More Addiction, Drug Essay Topics.

As time goes by, more and more teenagers get involved with different vices and one of the most dangerous addictions is drug abuse. They are the most high at risk when it comes to this issue, since they can be influenced by their environment. For this reason, we made up our minds to have our first event as a symposium regarding drug abuse. Our targeted participants were the first and second year high school students of the University of Mindanao, Tagum.

It is our first time to really organize an event like this, but I am pretty confident with my groupmates, for I can see in them that they are really interested in this project. In the midst of making this event happen, we had a lot of difficulties though organizing such event wouldn’t seem to require so much of hardwork, but it did. We had a problem looking for a speaker, and since it was our first time, we didn’t know where to go to. At the end of it, we still managed to overcome those circumstances with the help of Sir Carlito Panganoron. He suggested us Sir John Michael Bantonare who certainly responded to our offer to make him our symposium speaker.

.After the major problem has been resolved, we proceeded to fix the other things that needed to be considered, like the program flow, the registration list, publicity to encourage participants and other minor touches to be done.

On the day of the event, it began at exactly 8:00 in the morning. Mr. Almencion was the one who introduced the speaker and his achievements. The speaker then started to impress us by being able to manage the attention of the high school students who listened from the point when the event started until it ended just before lunch at 11:00am.

NAME OF THE EVENT: RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY EXTENSION AND TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION DATE: FEBRUARY 14,2013
TIM : FROM 8:00 AM TO 5:00PM
VENUE: PEBRO B. SAN JOSE GYM
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:

Valentine’s Day is all commonly known to be celebrated with our loved ones, which does not necessarily mean to just refer to the opposite sex. It could also be a day to give tribute and acknowledge the great role of our teachers in shaping the way we are today. As quoted by Henry Adams, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops”.

The second event we organized was the research and community extention and teachers day celebration with the theme Social Responsibility with Quality sponsored by the UMTC SSC led by Pres. Warren James Navarro. We really had a hard time looking for someone whom we could get the theme of this event. We went to a teacher who was also referred by a teacher who got mad when we tried to approach her, and so we just decided to leave her office because we were already frightened. Despite of that, we still looked for more possible ways to get this event done even though at times we seemed to give up due to some circumstances.

After we had an idea as to how to design the backdrop that would fit to the theme, others already started to arrange the tables and did logistical tasks. There were a lot of things to consider in organizing this type of big event in a day and so we divided the task among ourselves and merged with the other group in order to lighten up the load. Some were tasked to get the tables and chairs arranged, others did their thing on the backdrop, and some busied themselves arranging the stage platforms. Everyone worked hand in hand in order to carry out the plan first drafted in just a piece of paper.

Timely on the day of hearts, the event was dated. Everything has been settled and the program started with the entrance of the university faculties and the guests. The host of the event mentioned each department and the students yelled with all their might, representing their respective departments. It is just the start of the event and the students were at the peak of their energy. Following the entry of guests, the program officially started with the singing of National hymn, university hymn and the opening remarks by the SSC president Warren Navarro. Throughout the day there were various activities held like the dance drama, extemporaneous speaking, and dance showdowns.

Like any other event, there’s a highlight and the highlight of which is the moment when the students gave their teachers a flower and a song tribute to celebrate teacher’s day on Valentine’s day. The program by all means, became successful. We are proud to have organized such a very entertaining event, not only to the students, but also to our mentors, our teachers.

NAME OF THE EVENT: RISK AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT SEMINAR
DATE: FEBRUARY 14,2013
TIME : 8:00AM TO 5:00PM
VENUE: AUDIO VISUAL ROOM 1
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:

As we were thinking about the third event, I thought happily that we had 2 down and just 2 more to go; we’re halfway to finish it. Even weeks before the seminar, we already started to prepare and have all the necessary reservations done. The event was not that stressful as that of the past events since all we have to do is to look for a speaker that could deliver the topic which is about risk and crisis management.

We had our venue reserved in AVR 1 on February 23, 2013 at exactly 8 in the morning, since it is the only time available for both the venue and the speaker. The speaker is Mr. Kirk Maignes from the college of criminal justice education. After we made an event proposal that has been later approved, we made a publicity of the event to gather participants especially students under Meetings, Expositions, Events and Meetings subject for they are most probably the interested ones for this seminar.

The event was all about risk and crisis management. Ideas of risk management and definitions of terms are clarified and shared across the group, aiming at smooth operations. Crisis was defined as an event caused by “a risk.” Risk management covers risks arising in the business process. Risk management system consists of preventing crises before they happen, countermeasures at the initial stages of a crisis, and a strategy and system to maintain them. Particular emphasis is placed upon preventing crises before they happen. These are just the basics that one can grasp in a few moment of listening to the speaker who did not find it difficult to maintain his audience’s interest since his personal experiences that he shared were very interesting.

We organizers, didn’t just put up an event, we also listened very well to the excellent advises of the speaker which would really help us in our future job. We learned a lot with regards to the first actions we should do when we encounter sudden complications in our work that could also be applicable in real life situations.

Astonishingly, there were a lot of students who came in and so there were 2 sessions during that day. We collected a small amount from the participants that served as their registration which would be spent for the speaker’s honorarium, certificate, snacks for the speakers and as well as the participants. Everything went well with the event and I know that the participants enjoyed and learned a lot from this seminar of crisis and risk management.

NAME OF THE EVENT: FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CARVING WORKSHOP
DATE: FEBRUARY 28,2013
TIM : FROM 8:00 AM TO 5:00PM
VENUE: AUDIO VISUAL ROOM 3
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:

Sometimes a piece of fruit with a peculiar shape will catch an artist’s eye and suggest an entire sculpture. Aside from the idea that having a workshop in fruit and vegetable carving would be fun, we thought of it as the chance for those who wanted to showcase their hidden capabilities and talents when it comes to carving.

During the past events, we haven’t had any similar or events like this. At the end of the project, we decided to organize something that is closely related to our course. We then decided to choose this Fruit and Vegetable Carving workshop.

We settled the event on a Saturday which was agreed upon the group to be on the 1st and 2nd day of the month of March. We reserved the AVR3 for this event from 8am to 5pm of the chosen date. We also made a letter to be announced in order to notify those who are interested for the matter.

We did collect an amount of 250 pesos per participant which would be spent for the carving kit and certification. The fruits and vegetables to be used were provided by the participants. The list of fruits and vegetables is as follows: carrots, radish, tomato, apple, and watermelon.

The workshop was made mandatory for the students enrolled in Western Cuisine and Culinary Arts subjects but was open to everyone interested. To have someone who would be the master of the event and the mentor of the attendees, we invited and hired a professional master carver Mr. Jhon N. Abelis along with his three assistants who came all the way from Manila. They came to be the handler of the workshop which became successful.

At the end of the session, the AV3 was filled with beautiful fruit carvings made my the HRM students and other interested participants. Various carvings were made and the speaker was even impressed of the students’ outputs. We are so happy that we are finally done with our events organization. We learned a lot from the different tasks that I could really say that my efforts and the group’s hard work were worth it.
