Objectives: 1 - Lesson Modification Lesson Plan Essay introduction. Students will demonstrate their knowledge gained from the day before by correctly solving the problem of the day. 2. Students will use different strategies to solve single digit multiplication problems with at least 80% accuracy. Activity 1: The students will complete problem of the day. The problem will be related to what the students learned the day before and will be posted on the board and they will copy it into their notebooks and solve it. When everybody has it solved they will get with a partner sitting near them, that has previously been assigned to them, and compare their answers and how they solved the problem.
After a few minutes the class will come together and a few students will share how they solved the problem using the document camera. They will speak into the red cat speaker system while they are talking. Activity 2: The teacher will use GOMath! Interactive lesson to introduce the section. This lesson uses a cartoon to explain the lesson then has interactive problems for students to come up and solve on the interwrite board. The class will work together to complete the lesson. Activity 3: Student will complete the math lesson in their workbooks to solve multiplication problems.

They may use a variety of strategies such as number lines, mulitiplication charts, properties, tables, drawing pictures, manipulatives, etc. to solve the problems. After a few minutes the teacher will ask if there are any questions or difficulty areas to go over as a class. After completing the workbook the students may choose an activity from the daily 5 board to work on individually or in a small group.
Daily 5 activities include first in math on the computers, math related books, flash cards, and a variety of math games, etc. Those that may need extra assistance will move to the front of the room during Daily 5 time in order to be retaught by the teacher. The students will be evaluated with the problem of the day. This will tell if they recall what they learned the day before. Next students will demonstrate their knowledge by answering and solving problems on the board with the interactive cartoon lesson. Thirdly the students will be evaluated with the workbook when they turn in the papers. Lastly, the students will be informally evaluated by the teacher during Daily 5. While teaching the small group in the front the teacher will also be scanning the room to make sure everything is engaged in math.
Modifications for students will specific learning disabilities in writing, visual and kinesthetic learners, and those students that just work at a slower pace: In Activity 1, the teacher will have some copies typed for students that may not be able to write. They will be on strips of paper students may glue into their problem of the day notebooks. Multiplication answer may also be provided for students that need them. Student may check answers with a partner so that those they may have the answer wrong can have it explained to them by another student.
This would benefit both students. Also in Activity 1 students will use the RedCat speaker for so that also students can hear and understand. This Is especially beneficial for ESL students. In Activity 2: The interactive cartoon lesson is modified to engage visual learners. It encourages them to think deeply without them realizing it and while still having fun. This lesson will be modified by letting some students use Ipads or classroom computers to follow along.
This will help keep off task students on task because they will have to follow along and answer every problem rather than just watching other students go up to the board to answer them. This will also hold them accountable to pay attention and actually do the work rather than just waiting for the answer. In Activity 3: students will be able to work at their own pace on their workbooks. The teacher will be circulating to help students individually. Activity 4: by hearing the lesson in a new way using more visuals and hands on activities after the students have had a chance to try it on their own will help them solve the problems.
