INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The first S. V. Montessori in the Philippines was established in 1993 in Imus Cavite and its branch in Puerto Princesa was launched in 2008. It is located at Groundfloor, PPC Coliseum, Barangay San Pedro. S. V. Montessori is a dynamic institution that is using an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (August 31,1870 – May 6,1952),She is the first female physician in Italy, an Italian educator, scientist, physician, philosopher, devout Catholic, feminist, and humanitarian,and is best known for developing the Montessori method of teaching young children.

Montessori education is practiced in an estimated 20,000 Schools worldwide, serving children from birth to 18 old. And since the branch is a Filipino School, the approach is committed to the task of upholding and preserving the Filipino Heritage; developing values and contributing to the fulfilment of the national development goals within the Christian context. S. V. Montessori also believes that parents and the School are partners, with the same goal of enabling the child to develop fully and positively his/her potential.

There are around five hundred books in the library. Including the books for computer science, information and general works, Philosophy and Psychology, Religion, Social Science, Language, Science, Technology and applied Science ,Arts and recreation, Literature, History, Geography And Biography. This institution also maintains a stable valuesystem of self-discipline and leadership which is conservative yet adaptive to modernization.

OBJECTIVES

To keep pace with the modernization there should be room for improvement in the field of information technology. Nowadays, schools and companies shift from manual to computerized primarily because of advantages brought by the use of computers. To monitor the integration of different operation. It would be convenient for S. V. Montessori to store information fast and accurately. Furthermore, there would be consistent operation and procedures.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Library System throughout has relied on pens and papers. Problem such as missing of books arise. Under the old manual library systems, it takes up too much time to trace the missing books. The proponents would like to develop the library system to address the problem of SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY This study will be a significant endeavor in promoting good educational environment in the school place and motivations of its teachers. This study will also be beneficial to the students and instructors in educational management, teaching strategies when they employ effective learning in their classroom setting particularly in different concepts related to the use of effective library management system.

By understanding the needs of the students and benefits of quality education, these instructors and students be assured of a competitive advantage. Moreover, this research will provide recommendations on how to evaluate the performance of a certain institution in accordance to library system management.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study covered the whole innovated library management system of S. V. Montessori system. It’s main purpose is to identify the common problems that they encounter and to propose possible solutions regarding this problems. This study considers every Students and teachers who wants to borrow books has a right to take a book such as the subjects: Computer science, information & general works, Philosophy and psychology, Social sciences Religion, Social sciences, Language, Science, Technology, Arts, History, geography(&biography), Literature. Each of the respondents are given same chances to borrow. Only the administrators are the authorized person and capable to manipulate the system.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The researchers propose a system that can help library of S. V. Montessori to manage and monitor the books in the easiest way, this program has many data entry features. You will be able to keep all the library members in a database. All book specifications can be recorded as well. When a student borrows a book, a simple sheet must be filled in, including students and book’s IDs, dates of issuance and return and book’s status. When the book is returned, another simple form should be completed, which includes member’s ID, book’s ID and the return date.

Unreturned book report will appear each time you open the program to show you all the books lent and their return time. If the books not returned in the due date time the borrower will pay fines for every book he borrowed in damaged book as well. This program will help you to trace all the books and to have these returned at their specified time. The library system also interfaces with an external relational database which stores information about the library users (students, faculty, and staff) including whether they have any library items checked out.

This is in support of the quest of the school for excellence in the fields of research, academic and extension programs in Dumaguete and beyond. The vision of the Silliman University Main Library System is to be the Resource Center of Excellence in Dumaguete in the near future.

There will be a fast delivery of research services and information that is automated, updated, and relevant to the students, faculty, and staff of the school. Communities of scholars, professionals, and researchers are also welcome at the Silliman University Main Library System whether they are from Dumaguete or any part of the Philippines or abroad. The Silliman University Main Library System has more than a hundred thousand volumes of books covering various subjects and categories. The school library has local and foreign serial subscription.

The Silliman University Main Library System also maintains a special collection of pamphlets for the categories of Southeast Asia, Filipiniana, and United Nations. The Silliman University Main Library System has individual study carrels provided for the users. For the school’s faculty or staff doing research, dissertations, or thesis. There are faculty study rooms available for use. The Silliman University Main Library System has two discussion rooms suitable for some group discussions.

  • Transaction – Refers to the different process of operations in the library such as in borrowing, returning, searching of books, and registering of the new books and the members.
  • User – The personnel who will use the library system.

  • User type – Refers to the member of the library who used the library.
  • Operating System – This software designed to control the hardware of a specific data – processing system in order to allow users and application programs to employ it easily.
  • Module – Made up of separate modules that can be rearranged, replaced, combined, or inter changed easily.
  • Reference Materials – An item that can be found inside the member library book, periodicals, dictionary etc.
  • Retrieval – The possibility of data or information of the member being brought task, saved, or restored to an original condition.
  • Software – Programs and applications that can be run on a computer system and specific task.
  • Access – The capacity of the users to locate catalog, a book or certain piece of information.
  • Computer – A device that performs task , especially a programmable electronic machine that perform high speed mathematical or logical operations, such as calculations or that assembles stores and process information.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The proposed system was entitled “S. V Montesorri Library System”. The function of this system is to help improve the S. V Montessori service to perform different task that would give a lot of benefit to the user in terms of their Library Management. By providing fast and easy management system. The library would be able to achieve its goal as well as improving its goals and improving its operations. These functions include the Record Management and Book Reservation.
