On Tuesday 12-2-10 Rubio finished off Florida’s governor to become the state’s U.S. senator. Rubio’s victory over governor Charlie Crist was one to remember because it went down as one of the most dramatic political downfalls in the country. He will be the second Cuban-American senator. He is a member of the Republican Party. As a Hispanic Rubio is representing the nation’s biggest battleground state. Rubio becomes one of the top candidate’s and if not that then at least a potential contender for presidency.

Mario worked until he was 78 years old and retired in 2005 from his last job as a school crossing guard. Oria Rubio, the mother of Marco Rubio, also held many different types of jobs including a housekeeper, and a Kmart stock clerk. Oria is still living and she is 79 years old. Marco Rubio gives all the credit to his parents for showing and teaching him the “American dream”. Marco has 1 brother and 2 sisters. His older brother Mario works for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Mario is currently running for the Jacksonville, Miami City Council. Marco has his older sister Barbara Rubio and a younger sister Veronica Ponce.

Marco Rubio attended South Miami Senior High School. He graduated in the year of 1989. After graduating high-school he attended Tarkio College in Missouri on a scholarship for football. He then transferred to Santa Fe Community College. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1993 with a bachelor of science. Rubio also attended the University of Miami earning his juris doctor in 1996. Rubio served in the Florida House of Representatives from the year 2000-2008. The efforts of Rubio’s work received national attention, with Grover Norquist, president of the fiscally conservative Americans for Tax Reform, giving Rubio a lot of credit and said “the most pro-taxpayer legislative leader in the country”.

During Rubio’s legislative career he also did other things such as promote efforts to develop a world-class public school curriculum. He also is largely given credit for blocking out the outburst of gambling in Florida. Since the end of his term as speaker, Rubio has continued his law practice as a sole practitioner. Rubio has served as a visiting professor at Florida International University’s Metropolitan Center. He worked as a Florida Chairman of GOPAC and as a political analyst for Univision during the 2008 election time period. Rubio has also resumed with his community and civic involvement. He is also in the West Miami community where he served as a commissioner before being elected to the state house.  On May 5th, 2009 Rubio announced on his website that he planned to run for the United States Senate in 2010 for the Republican seat. Mel Martinez resigned and had been replaced by George Lemieux. On April 28, 2010 Crist announced that he would be running as an independent, against Rubio. Most of Crist’s top fundraisers, and the Republican leadership wouldn’t support Crist after Rubio won the Republican nomination for the state. On November 2nd, 2010, Rubio won the Senatorial election with 48.9 % of the vote to Crist’s 29.7 % and Democrat Kendrick Meek’s 20.1 %. January 3rd, will be the day Marco Rubio takes office. Crist thanked his family and said he believed Rubio would serve Florida well. Rubio is most likely the key player in the up and coming debate over immigration reform. He opposes the legislation led by Martinez in 2006 that would have let undocumented workers earn citizenship. Rubio also has promise to carry out a push for extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans that were begun under George W. Bush.

Marco Rubio married Jeanette Dousdebes. She was a cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins in the year of 1997. Her decent is Colombian, and together they have four children which names are Amanda, Daniella, Anthony, and Dominic. Jeanette and Rubio have been since 1998. Rubio and the family live in West Miami, Florida. The family lives just four blocks from the home his parents moved the family to in 1985. Rubio usually attends his Catholic mass. He also has attended and donated to the Christ Fellowship Church in West Kendall, Florida since 2004. This church is one of the biggest in the United

This election that Marco Rubio has won makes him one of the front runners for presidency in 2012. After winning the election he spoke to a crowd of more than 1,000 people. He sent a message that was humble to all people and showed his love for the country that he adores. Rubio’s message was “No matter where I go, whatever title I may achieve, I will always be the son of exiles and will always be the heir of two generations of unfulfilled dreams”. Rubio’s message touched a lot of people. He said this message outside the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. Marco Rubio is an example of what the “American Dream” is all about. All that he has went through and what he has become now. A great Latino in which gives all Latino hopes to accomplish their dreams. I think he has a shot at becoming president in 2012.
