My goal - Part 2 - Goal Essay Example

Growing up, I always felt that I was different from all the other children in my neighborhood - My goal introduction.  While everyone else in the neighborhood wanted to be a fireman, a policeman, a doctor or even a sports superstar, I found myself yearning to be something else.  Of course at that time I had no idea what an economic analyst was or even what an economic analyst does but I knew well enough that I did not have the same dreams and aspirations as my other friends.  I knew that I wanted to be different.  I wanted to become an economic analyst.

Looking back on the days of my youth, I realize that I really was different from all of my other friends.  I was more obsessed with the why and what ifs.  While the other children could care less how the ice cream was made or what made it possible, I was curious as to what made people decide to make ice cream and sell it in the first place.  When playing with building blocks, I found myself thinking how long and how many people it would take to construct a tower as opposed to building smaller structures.  To put it plainly, I did not see things the way other children of my age did when I was growing up.  To me there was always something bigger than what the eye could see.  It was not about what was there but it was about what could be there and what could be done to make things better.

I am in my second year at community college now and my dream has remained the same.  I still want to become an economic analyst.  The only difference now is that unlike when I was younger I realize that such a dream cannot be attained by simply closing your eyes and wishing hard enough that it will materialize.  I have come to understand that there are steps that need to be taken, actions that need to be planned before I can even begin taking that step towards accomplishing my dream.

I am occasionally asked by my friends, my teachers and my parents where I see myself in the future.  Honestly, I have to admit that I am not certain where I will be in the future.  I definitely know where I want to be in the future but knowing exactly where I will be in the future is something even the wisest of seers cannot predict.  Yet there is a way by which the options and the roads that one travels on this journey of life can be narrowed down in a such a way as to limit the endless possibilities to a few highly probable ones that are amenable to the journeyman.  By being prepared and by having the right equipment (in this case, a proper education) one can probably predict, with a high degree of certainty, what the outcome may be.  This is what I plan to do, narrow down my options and try my best to attain that dream I have of becoming an economic analyst.

While there are those who will argue that my being enrolled at a community college will not really result in me becoming an economic analyst, I believe otherwise.  It is not always the pedigree, so to speak, of the school or university that matters in so much as it is the desire and the will of the student to learn and to apply whatever knowledge the educational institution provided.   However, while I subscribe to that ideal, I also realize that the world does not operate based on my rules, my laws and my beliefs, and it would be naïve of me to think that the world will (though I secretly wish it would).  In line with that, I think that the best way to ensure that I will attain my dream is to be on the safe side and take into consideration my transfer to UC Berkley, which I believe will prepare me more and equip me better on my journey to becoming an economic analyst.

There are only two essential things that I need to prepare to ensure that I will be able to achieve my dream of becoming an economic analyst, money and a good education, in that order.  It is a sad truth that the best schools to prepare me to become an economic analyst are also some of the most expensive schools in the United States, if not the world.  Schools such as Kellog University or Yale University do not only require that their students be equipped with brilliant minds but also require their students to have hefty wallets as well.  It is clear then what I must do, study hard and work hard to either earn enough money to pay my way through or get really great grades so that I can earn a scholarship.

The path to becoming an economic analyst is not what I had envisioned when I was but a young boy playing with building blocks with my friends.  I never realized that it entailed so much of my time and effort and devotion to succeed and become better than everyone else.  I guess I would have preferred to be a fireman or a policeman if I had known.  But that is the past and that has already been chronicled in the book of fate, what remains unwritten in the book is the story that lies ahead, my becoming a great economic analyst, no, not simply great, the best economic analyst.
