My Relationship Towards Gay Marriage - Homosexuality Essay Example
Would you deny a person to marry even if they are in love? - My Relationship Towards Gay Marriage introduction?? I wouldn’t and that’s why I fully support gay marriage. I have been exposed to the gay culture since I was a young child and taking vacations to providence town. Even the political landscape is changing due to the increased support of gay marriage. Sadly the main deterrent to gay marriage laws being passed is the Catholic Church and other religious organizations. Religion plays a major role in not wanting same sex couples to marry because in the bible it may or may not say it is or isn’t a sin depending on how you interpret it or.
This has caused a very large junction of church and state which doesn’t help the current situation of gay marriage in our country. When I was younger I would take trips to providence town with my aunts. Providence town is a town in Rhode Island with a very large gay community. So even though me and my family didn’t go there for the gay community we found nothing wrong with it or the people in it when we were there. This caused me to grow up with the belief that these people were no different than me and that for the most part they seemed to be pretty happy people.

There is a large misconception that the gay community is filled with STDs and unprotected sex and they behave in barbaric ways by how they have sex. This is just not true and it does not make sense. With this being said I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I wasn’t exposed to the gay community. I think it changed me for the better and made me more accepting of people of all creeds. I owe all the thanks in the world for this to my aunt who is gay and is a major part of my life. She helped show me that all people are equal and that judging another person isn’t a good thing to do.
I didn’t vote for Mitt Romney for one reason. Mitt Romney did not support gay marriage and this was a turnoff to both me and my family members. I was raised in a family were my aunt is gay and I’m happy I was raised in the situation every single day of my life. My aunt is a person I love dearly so there is no way I could vote for a politician who would deny my aunt the right to marry the person she loves when they have been together for 15 years already. Being for or against gay marriage is becoming an extreme selling point in the American political market.
If you are pro-gay marriage you are most likely a democrat and if you are against gay marriage you are most likely a republican. This gay marriage topic in politics is really helping the separation of church and state in America which is also causing all-time highs of many people saying they are not religious at all. “In a historic turnaround, the ballot box is showing America’s shifting attitudes about same-sex marriage” (CNN) This is causing the political landscape to change very drastically due to the increased support in gay marriage.
It is now becoming more acceptable to be an openly gay politician and the first one, Tammy Baldwin, was elected as senator in Wisconsin. This has a large impact in the entire political world. There are only 2 major political parties in the U. S; they are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Republican Party is not a large supporter of gay marriage at all. This will lead to the entire Republican Party having to change because the gay marriage battle is becoming such a big deal.
Gay marriage has now also been passed in Maine and Maryland which is always a big step for the gay rights movement. For the longest time in American history religious organizations have been putting money towards stopping gay marriage. Nearly any state that is trying to legalize gay marriage there are millions of dollars being raised by the Catholic Church and other organizations to try and prevent them from passing the law.
This happened earlier this year in Maine were an organization called Protect Marriage Maine called nearly 800 churches asking for them to ask for donations to help support this organizations political funding. Only about 200 of the churches participated but this still shows how the church can easily collect large sums of money to give to organizations to support certain candidates and their motives” Between 150 and 200 churches are expected to raise money for the Protect Marriage Maine political action committee, said Carroll Conley Jr. executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine evangelical organization” (The Blaze). This is a problem for anyone who supports gay marriage because it makes you realize how closely church and state are really tied together in our country and that just because people follow a certain religion they are able to deny others basic opportunities that the straight community has. “In the 1990s, most Americans told pollsters they did not know anyone close to them who was gay.
By 2010, the number of Americans who said they had a gay or lesbian close friend or family member was 49%. This year, that number stands at 60 %” (CNN) I believe that with the rate of support gay marriage has been receiving there will nothing any organizations will be able to do to prevent gay marriage being legalized. It seems as a country we are accepting gay people at a much higher rate than we ever did in the past and this is greatly helping the Gay Marriage cause of finally giving gay citizens equal rights.
