            Nokia is one of the most trusted brand in its industry these days. They not only cater to its country of origin but it makes its products available worldwide. The durability, style, and ease of use make the Nokia handsets popular all over the world.

Product

            The company has a wide range of products specifically designed to fit every person’s needs. It has a department that focuses mainly on developing new ideas and ways to improve their devices so that its consumers never get bored. They believe that “devices are not enough anymore” and that “consumers want a complete experience” (2) with their devices.

New Ideas

            To compete with other brands, Nokia makes sure that they have new and original ideas that would surely make a big impact on the market. This includes the plan of creating an “online music store aimed at the 200 million music-capable Nokia mobile phones already on the market, an interactive multi player game service, and a new venue for Nokia handset users to swap photos, videos, and music” (2). The company does not want to get too comfortable and risk everything even with the large number of its consumers.

Control With the Screen

            Nokia shows advantages over major Internet companies because it can “bundle great services with specially tailored, user-friendly hardware” (18). These Internet companies may have a lot to offer to consumers but they still do not have control over the screen of Nokia’s handsets.

            It is known, especially to the avid users of the Nokia handsets, that Club Nokia was not really a big hit. It created problems with mobile service providers, which made the web portal unpopular to both the customers and the mobile operators.

Focus on Style and Design Rather than in Functionality

            Nokia handsets are stylish in every way. This is why it is very popular especially with the younger generation. Users also find the devices very user-friendly and they do not have to make great efforts to be able to use the phones. However, some find the handsets too focused on the design and are never complete in features. Something is always lacking.

Partnerships

            The company, in an effort to improve its services, tied up with other companies including Loudeye, gate5, and Twango (1). These tie-ups were made for the plan of a new online portal.  There are also talks of the company partnering with mobile operators to provide other services including a location-based service (17). Hopefully, with these other companies, Nokia will be able to revive the Club Nokia and offer more services to its users.

            The number one threat of the company would be other strong brands in the industry including Samsung and Motorola. With the release of the new iPhone by Apple, Nokia has more competition than ever. These companies make Nokia work harder to satisfy its customers and not make them look the other way.
