Depending on Intelligence Quotient (IQ) tests to measure the degree of intelligence in humans has time and again misled the scientists to come to any conclusive result that can be verified empirically. The question of reliability of IQ tests is more of a concept which is based on the assumption that such tests can actually give a proven pattern of a person’s mental capabilities. Now to take this conjecture as granted may lead to a false notion that human intelligence is a continual process independent of external factors such as inheritance, parental intelligence and a few more. While any psychological test may give a sketchy perception of the mental world of an individual, its short-term consistency is a crucial factor that prevents the experts to draw a conclusive judgment. (Cyberus, 1995-2003) This article is going to analyze the actual outcomes of IQ tests in various domains. I visited five websites that conduct free IQ tests. Based on experience of the tests, I’ll be answering to a set of questionnaire.

      Set of Questions

What was your score on each of the five IQ tests and in what range of intelligence                                   classification (e.g., average, above average, superior, etc.)?

Were the scores from the different tests similar or not?

In what ways were the five tests similar or dissimilar?

What was your personal experience and reaction to the experience of different tests?

Do you think the scores you attained from the tests are accurate measures of your intelligence?

Define the terms validity and reliability as they apply to IQ tests and psychological tests in general.

Imagine that your ability to be admitted to the college of your choice or get the job or promotion you wanted depended on your score on one of these tests…how would you feel? Do you think it would be fair and accurate? Defend your position.

The Culture Fair Intelligence Test (Queendom, 1996-2009) results showed that the performance was above average. Since this test is designed to nullify the cultural or educational biases, anybody can test their IQ level on the basis of studying image patterns.

The Intelligence Type Test (Queendom, 1996-2009) reveals that the intelligence type is Visual-Spatial. It refers to a highly developed capacity to perceive the visual world accurately and to transform, manipulate and recreate mental images.

The Spatial IQ Test (Queendom, 1996-2009) evaluates the foundation of spatial skills inherent in an individual. The test results were average.

IQ Test (IQTest.com, 2003-2009) score was 128, indicating an above average intelligence rating.

IQ Test (International High IQ Society, n. d.) score was 102, demonstrating an above average intelligence ranking.

So it is observed that the scores from different tests were more or less similar and hence, one can draw a conclusion regarding the subjective element present in psychological analysis. This subjective intuition holds its ground firmly despite the dissimilarity in different tests. Even though all the tests are designed to measure the intelligence level and all of them are thrown up as a game, it is the variations in patterns that support the statement regarding consistency in subjective intuition. Talking of my personal experience, I really appreciated the way each test was designed to cater to a broad behavioral domain. In other words, the tests allowed for a scattered cognition in order to determine the prime orientation of the mind.

When it comes to measuring the intelligence level, I do think that the tests credibly assessed my IQ. The dynamic nature of different tests leads me to conclude that my intelligence was correctly judged.

‘Validity’ in IQ tests and psychological tests implies to reliability of test scores by some independent factors of the test construction to measure ‘intelligence’. This is crucial to prove the fact that one has spontaneously taken part in the test with his conception of intelligence and a system measured it.

‘Reliability’ in IQ tests and psychological tests means if one can depend on the results of such tests. These tests are well designed. But they are not independent of one’s personal mental situations like tension, anxiety at the time of appearing for the test. (Cyberus, 1995-2003) Hence, given that an individual is in a ‘certain’ state of physical and mental health at the time of the test, one can validate his/her IQ based on the result.

Coming to the last question I opted for to corroborate my observations and to put them in a real-time scenario, I would like to perceive such a situation as a welcoming digression from the conventions, but I very much doubt about the reliability of such a choice. Getting a promotion in a job or getting oneself admitted to a reputed institution demands more skill and intelligence than what one finds in any IQ test. Besides, the test results are likely to vary depending on the stress factors at the time of the tests.
