What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a nuclear physiatrist personally. When you were younger, your parents told you to reach for the stars and accomplish your dreams. They would say that the world was your oyster and that you could do anything. When Gene and Patty Dyrdek had their son, rob, I don’t think they knew just how far he'd go with that. Through skating, Rob Dyrdek created safe spot skate spots and his own line of clothing. Rob Dyrdek is a skating pro and has been for over 20 years. He has built himself up out of the ground through hard work and dedication to his sport.
When he started, skateboarding wasn't even considered a sport. But Rob was determined to show the world just what skating could be. He was 11 when he started skating. He received his first skateboard from pro skater Neil blender, whose sponsor chose Rob to sponsor that next year. He later turned pro at age 16 in 1991. After he turned pro, Rob and Neil left their sponsor to create the board company Alien Workshop, which Rob still owns today. In 1995 Rob joined the DC team, which was previously named droors clothing. On June 16 of 1998, the Training Facility was completed.
The Training Facility is an indoor skate park that has inspired others to build things of the same nature. In 2003, Rob and “Big Black” Boykin entered the gumball 3000. The gumball is an illegal European rally car race that last for a week. Since then, Rob has been in famous magazines, had 4 TV shows, and created his own movie. Rob has starred in 4 TV shows, of which 3 are still running. These shows include Rob & Big, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, Ridiculousness, and Wild Grinders. Rob and Big was a show that ran from 2006 to 2008. t was the story of the day to day life of Rob and Big Black, his bodyguard, and their adventures. The show ended in April because Big Black had to leave the show when his long time girlfriend had their baby, and both guys knew it was time to move on. Fantasy Factory is a show that started in February of 2009 and is still making new episodes today. The Fantasy Factory is a 25,000 square foot complex with two distinct areas, the skate park and the offices. He uses this space to manage the two parts of his life; pleasure and business.
His cousin Christopher "Drama" Pfaff is his assistant on the show. The main cast consists of Drama, Big Black, Chanel West Coast, Scott "Big Cat" Pfaff, Jeremy Larner, Geoff Taylor, Tony "Blurry" Turbo, and Sterling "Steelo" Brim. They have many guest appearances on the show like Ryan Sheckler, Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius, John Mayer, Danny Way, Steve Berra, Ludacris and Justin Bieber. He's also had many guest stars on his Show Ridiculousness, of which include Wiz Khalifa, Justin Bieber, Travis Pastrana, Lil Jon, Tyler the Creator, Rampage Jackson, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
They have had many more guests on the show. This show consists of web based clips that Rob, Chanel, and Steelo find funny and ridiculous. There have been 2 seasons so far, and the third season comes out in 2013. Rob's fourth show is a cartoon show loosely based on Rob's life as a professional skateboarder. It was aired on April 27 of this year. Rob has also been on magazines, which includes Forbes and azTeen. Rob has also created many things, which include movies, safe spot skate spots, and his own brands.
His movie, Street Dreams, is about a young skater named Derrick who wants to be a pro skater who has all the talent, but has the whole world against him. Battling against cops, jealous friends, and deciding with ultimatums from parents and girlfriends, Derrick tries his hardest to get sponsored at the Florida AM competition and go pro. Rob wrote this 2009 movie. He has also sponsored and paid for 9 different safe spot skate spots. A safe spot skate spot is a fun and legal place for people to skate. Every skate spot is designed and built by JC.
Rob also has several different brands, which include Alien Workshop and The Dyrdek Collection from DC. Alien Workshop is a skateboarding company created in the 1990's, while the dyrdek collection is a line of clothing ranging from shoes to hats from DC. Some of the logos for the dyrdek collection include "Make Your Own Luck. " You will see Rob wear many shirts with this phrase on it, along with monster energy drink shirts, which he is also a part of. Yet another thing Rob has created is street league, which is like the NBA of skateboarding.
The greatest skateboarders come to street league and compete for money. It has the largest prize purse in history for professional skateboarding, adding up to 1. 6 million dollars. The unique characteristics of the competition include the format, the ISX scoring system, and the indoor skate plaza. So, as you can see, Rob Dyrdek is a truly impressive person who is very dedicated to anything he sets his mind to. If he wants something, he will accomplish it with anything he needs to do to get it done, and this is why I admire him.
