William Shakespeare One of history’s greatest writers and poets is William Shakespeare. He wrote many famous plays and up to this day, their impact of great liking among people remains. English poet, dramatist, and actor, often called the English national poet and considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time. Other poets such as Homer and Dante, also very famous in time, have excelled and are known in various nations. However, William Shakespeare surpasses them all.
No writer’s living reputation can compare to that of Shakespeare, whose genius works, written in the late 16th and early 17th centuries for a small theatre, are now performed and read more often and in more countries than ever before.
The great William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-on-Avon on April 23, 1564. It has been speculated that it is almost impossible to know exactly when he was born. The good thing is that church records remain of his baptism, History. com states,” three days was a customary amount of time to wait before baptizing a newborn.
Shakespeare probably attended the grammar school in Stratford, where he would have studied Latin and read classical literature. He was born to middle class parents who lived in Henley Street, Stratford. His father John, was a local businessman: a glove maker who owned a leather shop. He was a well-known and much respected man holding several important local governmental positions including that of Borough ale-taster to bailiff, the highest public office in Stratford. Shakespeare’s mother was Mary Arden who was from lesser branch of an aristocratic family.
Shakespeare did not attend university and at 18 he married to Anne Hathaway who was eight years older than him and had been pregnant at the time they got married. They had a daughter named Susana, and in 1585 William and Anne had twins, Hamnet and Judith. Eleven years later his only son died. It remains uncertain what William did for the next few years. But, the first reference to his start as a the London playwright began in 1592. By then, Shakespeare was making important friends. Between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part owner of a playing ompany called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later known as the King’s Men.
More over, Shakespeare attracted the attention of Henry Wriothesley, 3rd earl of Southampton. William dedicated his first published poems, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece. (1593) to Wriothesley, and after followed The Passionate Pilgrim in 1599 and The Phoenix and the Turtle (1601). Shakespeare wrote an impressive 154 sonnets in total and 152 of them were published in ‘Shakespeare’s Sonnets’ in 1609, and the other two sonnets were published previously in ‘The Passionate Pilgrim’ in 1599.
In addition to his sonnets, he also wrote a number of other poems, which were longer. Shakespeare assiduously devoted twenty years of his life to his art writing some of the greatest works of art in literature. “Writing more than a million words of poetic drama of the highest quality”. (bio. com) Shakespeare’s registered is April 25, 1616 he died in Stratford-on-Avon on . April 23, has been accepted as his birthday, Due to his legacy; however, his date of death is ‘Carved in stone’. William Shakespeare will forever be remembered. Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them”.
