The Lusitania was sunk by the German U-20 submarine on 7th may 1915 just off the Irish coast during a voyage form Liverpool to New York. She was struck by one single type G- torpedo on the forward of the bridge on the starboard side.
The reason citizens where so enraged was because the Lusitania was a passenger liner and only ment to be carrying American and British citizens but Sir Winston Churchill, the high lord of admiralty has for some unknown reason and without anyone knowing put shells and guns in the holding decks and that’s what years on many people think the two bangs where.
Many people think that Churchill put the weapons on the ship because if they made it then he could have guns and bombs or maybe because Churchill knew America were neutral but slightly bias to England and that if Germany attacked a ship containing Americans that America would see it as a disgrace and declare war on Germany. If you think about it; sacrificing the lives of a few hundred Americans to save the life of thousands of British people.
But the problem was and still is was this justified because it did save thousands of lives by America joining in the war as they where neutral and then came to our side but on the other hand maybe those people didn’t need to die and maybe Britain could have found another way to get America in to the war…?
As source 4 shows America soon got into swing of things and even though they had only been in for a short amount of time and they where really deeply hating the Germans.
Sources 3 from Winston Churchill show that Germany deliberately wanted the world to break apart and therefore blames the Germans for everything.
Source 5 fro the New York times states that no single deed can compare to what happened.
Source 7 shows and proves that the public did not know about the ships being armed. They were completely oblivious to the fact.
Source 8 is proof that guns and weapons where mounted on the Lusitania plus on the 17th September it was registered as an auxiliary armed cruiser.
Personally I do not think that sinking the luxury liner was a act of piracy and the Germans had every right, as the ship was armed and it was registered as a “armed” plus the Germans stated that any armed liner would be attacked, and finally why did Winston Churchill not tell the liner that it had a submarine on its tail and why where they carrying troops. All these add up to something between Churchill and America joining the war.
