Sound, Sound Effects, and Music for Computer Games

In this assignment I will be analysing the use of sound design and sound production in computer games.

Sound has been used in computer games from the, it is used to give the user a greater sense of being in or apart of the game world. By using sound we can create a 3d world for the user to feel more involve with the game. Modern games have not only sounds and effects but also soundtracks and theme tunes these give a much more intense fell to the game.

Sound in computer games can be split into 2 domains Diegetic and Non-diagetic we can then split these into 4 categories, and depending on where or how it happens in the game depends on how it is categorized.

Assassins Creed

Assassin’s creed is a historical fiction action-adventure open world stealth video game that is multi platform. The franchise began in 2007 with Assassins Creed, over the last 5 years they have gone on create another 5 games including Assassins creed 2, Revelations, Brotherhood and Assassins Creed 3. The technology used to create these games and there music is state of the art, The FX and soundtrack are very well put together giving the game a cinematic movie feel.

The Assassin’s Creed games take place in 2012, featuring the protagonist Desmond Miles, a bartender who is a descendant of several lines of prominent Assassins; though raised as an Assassin, he fled his nomadic family to seek out a more common lifestyle. He is initially kidnapped by the mega corporation Abstergo Industries, the modern-day face of the Knights Templar who are aware of Desmond’s lineage. Desmond is forced to use the “Animus”, a device that allows him to experience his ancestral memories.

Monopoly – Here & now World edition (Pc)

Monopoly is a board game created in the 1930’s named after the economic concept of Monopoly, the domination of a market by a single entity. The game was published by Parker Brothers and since its creation has gone on the create many special edition boaed games and in the last 35 years many computer games.

The first computer version of monopoly was designed to be played on the BBC Micro, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum consoles over time the game was also licensed and produced for the NES, Super NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and Wii consoles, as well as mobile device (PDA/Smartphone) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_(video_game)

The Monopoly here and now edition was created in 2008 and is the most recent game in the franchise, published by Electronic Arts and created with a Render Ware game engine (used fort he creation and development of video games) this is the most advance version of monopoly video game.

1. To indicate when it is the players turn there chosen piece replicates the sound it would make if real e.g. Car sounds its horn, Dog barks, and the Planes engines sound.

1. New Game, Load, Options and Ok (select) all have the same click sound to indicate your choice.

Fifa Football

Fifa football is single or multiplayer multiplatform football video game developed by EA Sports, the game was first released in 1993 and was called Fifa international soccer ever since it has been released annually with the latest version being called “Fifa 2013”.

The Fifa series was notable for obtaining an official licence from Fifa the governing body of football; this gave them opportunity to use the official club names, badge logos, sponsors, and stadium names.
