After extensive research, I have concluded that the three main areas in which Steve Jobs changed technology has been music, the personal computer, and the cell phone. BODY Transition: So let’s start with how Steve Jobs left a lasting impression on the music industry. The new millennium was all about a rapid transition to digital content delivery; cassettes and CD’s were quickly becoming obsolete. I. Music A. iPod With the introduction of the iPod in 2001, Apple sparked a digital revolution, which allowed consumers to carry thousands of songs on a single small device in their pocket.
The iPod was a smashing success, and quickly became a pillar of Apple’s product lineup. As of a study done on September 1, 2010 there are oven 275 million iPods sold since 2001. But the real advantage of the iPod was its integration with iTunes. B. iTunes Apple launched iTunes with a built in music store in 2003, and sold over 100 million songs in the first year. This digital content service charged for music, and its ease-of-use and tight integration with the popular iPod proved irresistible to consumers.
According to JP Mangalindan, a journalist at Fortune Magazine, iTunes is now the largest online music retailer in the world, with over 200 million registered users who have downloaded over 15 billion songs. Transition 2: The next industry that Steve Jobs influenced is the personal computer. Steve helped popularize the very idea of the personal computer with the Macintosh. II. Personal Computer/Laptops A. MacBook Since introducing the Apple 1 in 1976, the company has come out with over a hundred different types and models of computers.
Some of the most recent ones introduced being Mac mini, iMac, Mac Pro workstation, MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. B. MacBook Pro The MacBook pro is easily the most advanced computer ever. It has over 5 million pixels, weighs less than 4 pounds and is no thicker than an inch! They also come previously installed with the latest Intel core 5i and 7i processors making it the fastest computer available Transition 3: If there was one thing that Steve Jobs was notably known for, it was his creation of the iPhone. Technology has taken over our world and the iPhone right now offers the best possible technology. The iPhone is innovative so naturally the way it advertises has to be that as well. When you see an iPhone commercial if you don’t have one you’re more than likely left saying, “wow I wish I had one of those. ” B. People want the most hi-tech and hip device possible, and that device is an iPhone. With its ability to hold 1000+ songs, text, surf the web, and simply entertain yourself it’s a young adults dream. The iPhones biggest asset is its thousands of applications (apps) that you can have at your fingertips.
The slogan “there’s an app for that” that Steve Jobs created really sums up the iPhone. There really isn’t to many things that you can’t do or access on your iPhone. CONCLUSION In conclusion, Steve Jobs created revolutionary breakthroughs like the first personal computer (Apple 1), the first graphical interface (Mac), the first Unix PC (Next), the first successor to Sony’s Walkman (iPod), the first online music store (iTunes), the first widely used smart phone (iPhone), and the first successful tablet (iPad) making him one of the greatest men of our time.
