The Bauhaus was born from the integration of the two art schools in Weimar, The Grand Ducal School of Arts and Crafts and the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts. The Bauhaus’ first Manifesto written by Gropius declared the necessity of uniting the arts through their use in buildings, both the architecture of the building and creating a “total” work of art from all arts in general. Thus the manifesto was illustrated by a cathedral, where all of the crafts pooled in a large scale. (Bauhaus-dessau)

            Its is apparent on the Bauhaus design than it is mainly based on geometry for it was considered as the language of the machine and a symbol of mass production, though ironically it was created by hand. Objective

            The proposed research project will try to determine how the Bauhaus School in Germany journeyed through its ninety years of existence and how it has gone through all the obstacles caused by the conflicts and issues during the time it was built. The research is also going to tackle how the Bauhaus school came to the conclusion  that the traditional forms of art and architecture was becoming obsolete in the new economic, social and political conditions of the then emerging fully industrialized world. More importantly, it shall also discover how the Bauhaus saga shaped its influence on modernism.

Research Questions

            The primary aim of this proposed project is to determine the impact of the Bauhaus project to modernism and the specific queries shall be tackled as follows:

1.      How has the past accounts of the Bauhaus School mold its evident impact on modernism?

2.      How did the Bauhaus School, through its impact on modernism, achieve the state of being such a powerful influence to the education of art and architecture nowadays.

Research Design

The study shall be conducted through a literature review. The researchers shall accumulate different sources like historical accounts, art and architectural samples, reviews and other related materials that will be relevant to the study. The researchers shall then synthesize and analyze the resources to arrive at the resolution of the inquiries forwarded.
