Another name for marijuana is cannabis or hemp - The legalization of marijuana introduction. Cannabis was once legal in the in the Untied States but the US government decided to make it illegal. The Author stated that the real reason that the government made it illegal wasn’t because it was a harmful drug. He goes on stating that the US proposed the use hemp fiber in order to make stronger paper in the 1930’s but didn’t occur at the time because they couldn’t find a cheap way of separating the hemp. During the time while they were trying to find a cheap way to do so, a company found a cheaper way to make paper out of trees which made the paper whiter then hemp paper but weaker. This article also states that the US Constitution was even made out of hemp and because of that the Constitution has last over 300 years.
As the author describes, cannabis has been use for medicine for centuries. As an example is Thailand, they used it to help treat migraines. Also many people believe that marijuana can help with people suffering from AIDS and cancer because of a martial called THC which is only found in marijuana. He goes on saying that the reason this helps AIDS and Cancer is it helps with the nausea so that you won’t lose so much weigh.

He then describes some of the everyday items that hemp is use for such as, Jeans, tee shirts, and shoes are made out of hemp and he goes on to say that hemp is more comfortable, safer for the environment, is available material economically and even goes as far as saying that hemp is softer then wood. By using hemp for these objects he says that the framers would benefit greatly because of how cheaper it is to grow then cotton. Cannabis takes up less land to grow and also it can be grown in many didn’t types of climate. Since this occurs farmers wouldn’t have to be one of the poorest occupations.
He also states that marijuana is one of the safest drugs even comparing safer then some legal drugs like coffee, alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco. He states that people smoke more tobacco per day then people who smokes marijuana. He does how ever admit that hemp has over 1000 natural chemicals in it and said that’s why many people believe it should be illegal but he also goes on to say that coffee has over 900 chemicals and some are believed carcinogenous. It also states that no studies have proved that marijuana is addicting, causes brain damage, cancer, or causes people to do other drugs, as some people call it the gateway drug to other drugs.

The article is very persuasive because he gave many benefits of it and this essay is probably written for people who know little about the uses of hemp and its other sources of use then just being a drug. Overall I find the authors point of this essay is to knowledge others on marijuana so that one day it will be legal.
