The Linage of Sin and Death Essays

The Lineage of Sin and Death

Sin was started when the serpent told Eve to eat from the tree in the center of the garden. He told her she would eat and be like God and see good and evil. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from this tree. Adam and Eve then ate from this tree and became impure. They knew they were naked, felt ashamed, and hid from God. (Gen 3:2) “ The women said to the serpent, “ We may eat from the trees in the garden, but God did say,” You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it or you will die.” By Adam and Eve breaking this rule, they allowed sin and death to enter this once perfect world. Sin is much easier to do than good. It is easy to lie cheat or steal, and it is harder to tell the unwanted truth, earn your own, and learn on your own. Temptation is also the hardest feeling to resist. Temptation is what drives people to sin. We know what is right or wrong, but that temptation to eat that forbidden fruit just might get you in trouble. Putting blame on someone else is also a sin, and easy to do. Why take the blame when someone else can take the fall for it? This, although not the right thing, is what a lot of people do, “They never did it, and it was the other guy”. Adam blamed Eve for making him eat the apple, and Eve blamed the serpent for making her eat the apple.

The Sins of Adam and Eve were the beginning and these sins and temptation spread to the generations to follow. Adam and Eve had a son named Cain and then later Abel. Cain grew jealous of Abel during an offering that was taken to God one day, and when God told him to fix his mistake and make his wrong doing right by trying again, Cain ignored God’s request to fix his sin and he let his emotions over rule what he should have done. He took his brother Abel to the fields and killed him. Cain was banished by God and was to be considered a “wanderer” but if he was killed, whoever killed him would be punished stronger then he was.

Over the next several years, the generations of family kept creating sins, and everyone forgot about God, Noah was the only one who did not forget and God gave the people of Noah’s time 120 years to let go of their “sinning ways” and no one person listened. God had Noah create an Ark and told him “Take with you seven (7 pairs) of every clean animal, a male and its mate and two of every unclean animal a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made” (Gen 7). After about a year passed, God told Noah to come out of the Ark, God then made a covenant with Noah and he told him that he would never destroy life that he created again. He did what he did to start life over again with Noah and his family who believed in God and did not Sin, and the reason he took the animals was to keep life on earth. God did not want people to live in sin but to be happy and honest with each other. He wanted them not to be jealous or do things that we know are wrong but do not listen. He wanted mankind to be gentle and loving. The world we live in today is defiantly not what God had in mind when he created Adam and Eve, there is much sin and hate in the world. However there are those who do not sin or when they do sin they repent their sins. I feel that no matter what we do or how we do it, God is always watching over us and waiting to see how we will handle an issue at hand, whether we will follow him and the ways to resist temptation, or if we will just do what we had intended to do anyways. The ways to resist temptation are:

1, we need to pray for strength to resist, 2, run, sometimes literally, and 3, Say no when we know something is wrong. I believe that everyone makes mistakes and as long as we know what we did wrong and don’t do it again, with the feeling of remorse God will forgive us and allow us to redeem ourselves.
