Truth is something that is abstract which is far beyond our understanding of the universe. Truth can be manipulated by so many forces that prohibit the growth of mankind. This idea leads to unfold the mystery of faith approach that pertains to beliefs and practices where as reason approach that permits an individual to grasp the essence of the puzzled environment. There are more to explain and more to be discovered.
Perhaps the basic principle of truth is that a person must be knowledgeable of the surrounding circumstances that come in hand. Circumstances which enable each individual to share, give, and expand the boundaries of companionship. Truth can offer so many things but being able to misunderstand the ties of which it is bound can be dreadful to all. Complexity comes when one deals with faith and reason to be the driving forces manipulating the truth. Anyone can tell the difference but could not tell the essential difference between the two thoughts of parameters. Church has always been meticulous on defining the truth so as to any individual that is an atheist or does not respond to the will of a sovereign being. Now, this misleads the facts of understanding. However the purpose is clear, that each period of finding the ultimate truth is responsible for the truth that we know nowadays or maybe just a glimpse of it.
It started way back as the so called age of faith, from the first century until the 16th century in European history, where Christianity began to sprout in the midst of Greek beliefs that most believers have yet to uncover just to find the perception of truth. It is not easy for some to grasp the concept of new found religion, however as many people become enlightened, Roman Empire grabs the opportunity to mask the people to this kind of belief then makes use of the emerging religion. Dynamically, it is not safe just to utter the role of the said religion; it is also the interrelationship of other beliefs as well as culture that also contribute to the truth that make a mark in the 11th century like Islam and also Greek philosophy and philosophers like Aristotle. In accordance to the age of faith, it is sub-classified into four diverse periods. First is the period of Christianity that brought the works of St. Paul and Tertullian. Second is the period of disregarding rationalism and revelation which took part in the early middle ages. Third is the period of scholarly argument between faith and reason as a basis for truth which is highly described in the works of St. Thomas Aquinas. Fourth is the period where protestant began to question the teachings of rational reasoning in the 16th century when Martin Luther returned to the Pauline-Tertullian tradition where Christianity is beyond the idealistic reasons of men.
Faith created a complex fashion of seeing things. “To feel is to believe”, as for truth it needs to be felt. Taking into account the preaching, manifestation, that God is the most powerful creature, everything in this universe is a subset of God, angels and demons exists, and that there is a hope to cling-on when the truth is far beneath the grounds. It is probable to say that truth coexist in believing and in faith. But it is a lot way different yet so much alike in the age of reason.
Again in European history about in 17th and 18th century, age of reason began to unfold the realms of finding truth in such a way that man can barely see truth by means of figures, shapes, signs, and even today through internet. It is needless to say that truth is much more like, “to see is to believe”. Being rational is the part of the game and perhaps people are now aware of it even way before and during the age of faith but not being able to express there ideas.
Generally, the age of reason gave a path to appreciate the environment rather than judging the environment from less scientific basis. The belief that the earth is the center of the universe approach by Aristotle was disproved by Newton’s discovery that the earth is just an object in the universe circling the sun. It is just an example of how nature is being studied through a scientific method governing the search for truth. Again, we all know that all object fall at the same time given the same altitude for which the objects are at rest. These facts intertwined science as a basis for reasoning what is the truth. Then there is a conflict between religious organizations specifically the Protestant Reform and the Catholic Church. Both have the same bible however faith blinds them to understand the teachings in separate ways. How can someone knows the truth but not be able to point in the same direction as they speak of the truth. Base from the efforts of rationality, it is evident that he age of reason gives a basis for all but the question is, is that enough? Series of universal studies are now being materialized to further stretch the basis for such discovery. Faith also is being pushed forward to compensate the knowledge that rationality is covering up.
Both ages give a brighter picture of pursuing the truth. Both have flaws that everyone knows about. It is hard to categorize the results that faith and reason approach has given but at least we can tell that either ways they are superior to one another.
Mankind has been too keen on knowing what is right and what is wrong. Faith gives insight of morality and how human respond to the so called “changing environment”. Of course it is vague to say that it only gives insights but the insights and the realization is real. In a court trail, a person is accused of something that he/she does not commit but still is being punished by law, being irrational is observed. People have been saved by faith in so many circumstances like in relationships, businesses, and in life. Even science is finding evidence on paranormal phenomenon that only faith can answer. Regarding the protestant reform, it is their way of defining the truth. Claiming that what they are preaching about their way of things are true does not prove anything but claiming that they will be saved by a sovereign being proves everything.
Age of reason also is superior in some point where science can explore the deep space outside the universe. It is a great leap when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. Faith alone could not do that but rationality does. Breakthroughs or milestones in understanding the truth has been published in countless books specifically in the field of medicine. Vaccines are produced because of the knowledge that the age of reason has bestowed.
To sum it all up, faith approach brings about a change in character and in the soul of an individual that could lead to better understanding of the world. Reason approach emits hard facts about the physical environment to give a better understanding of the world. Truth can only be achieved when both are used in relative circumstances.
