What connections can you make to your own life?
The novel can be connected to my life by using the ideas regarding information and psychological manipulation. For me, these two happen most of the time, no matter if the purpose is an intentional one or not. Information control, for example, can be clearly seen everyday when we are watching TV programs. If analyze, TV programs today are mainly profit-based, and so, information are sometimes being distorted to serve this purpose.
Psychological manipulation can also be seen through advertisements. People are persuaded by these ads that a certain product or service is good, even if it is a lie. Again, the advertisers’ purpose is purely profit- based.

Part three of the novel focuses On Winston’s experiences after captured by the Thought Police. If in the second part of the book Orwell narrated the simple and ordinary life of Winston, he then told in the succeeding chapter the turn of events in the protagonist’s life. From an ordinary man, Winston was tortured to serve the purpose of the current government.
This second part, in addition, also serve as the author’s way of preparing the readers for the coming of more intense series of events that he will uncover at the last part of the story. Part two also gives the readers the necessary information they might want to learn about the totalitarian government, the Party.
