Most organizations strive to achieve success in their business operations both in the short term and in the long run. The concept of organizational development has been embraced by most of the organizations in their pursuit to achieve their goals and objectives. Training programs have been incorporated in organizational development programs, as they enable the members of the organization to adapt to the changes in the business environment in the achievement of total quality in the production activities. The research paper will focus on the training concept in relation to organizational development.
Training and organizational development
Training is one of the aspects of human resource management, which enables the individuals who work in organizations to develop the work performance skills, as well as the competencies that are crucial in the carrying out their duties and responsibilities in the organizations. Training programs also enable individuals working in organizations to adapt to certain behaviors, which will enable them to improve in carrying out their tasks. Some of the training programs which are adopted in the organizations include those that cover issues to do with adult learning, technical application procedures and train the trainer programs, as well as in structural applications and methods among many others (Gallos and Schein, p61-120).
For organizations to achieve success in their business activities, in the dynamic business environment, there is need for them to utilize the potential of their human resources. One of the ways in which this can be done is thorough carrying out training programs, which will enable employees to improve their job performance (Gallos and Schein, p61-120).
The concept of organizational development encompasses, the plans that organizations carry out in an effort to ensure that all their business activities are carried out in an efficient and effective manner, which will enable the organization to attain its goals and objectives both in the short run and in the long run. According to the researches which have been conducted in the areas of organizational development, it has been established by the behavioral science specialists that, organizational development is attained only through interventions between the various organizational processes that involve human beings. Thus the concept of organizational development is considered to be a complex strategy, which is used in organizations with an intention of changing the various beliefs, values as well as attitudes among other structures in the organization. The ideas of organizational development will eventually enable the organization to adapt to the changes in the business environment, which will be beneficial to the business operations of the organization (Mclean, p10-55).
Given that organizational development cannot be achieved in one day by doing anything that is of benefit to the organization, it is considered to be a gradual process that is carried out in organizations as they focus on specific goals and objectives in their operations. The major activities that are carried out in organizational development programs include activities to do with organizational reflection and analysis as well as production systems improvement, and organizational planning activities among many other activities that are directed towards the betterment of the organizational activities (Haneberg p5-35).
In carrying out organizational development programs, the training concept is given emphasis, as it is one of the major ways in which the members of an organization will be empowered to adapt to change. Training programs involve bringing two or more people from within the organization or from outside the organization, and allowing them to share the various knowledge resources that are available to the organization. In the process of carrying out the training programs, the individuals of the organizations will acquire new techniques of handling their jobs and other organizational issues. Given that organizational development is a gradual process, the management of the organizations will need to carry out the training programs on a continuous basis so as to improve on the work performance of the individuals (Haneberg p5-35).
For the organizations to achieve success, in their organizational development programs there is need for the management to incorporate the training programs, as part of the strategic plans of the organization. Incorporating training programs as part of the strategic plans of the organization, the organization will be at a better position to allocate the necessary resources for the training programs, which will enable individuals to acquire the relevant knowledge and skills in their work performance. Finally, there is need for the top management of the organizations to support the training programs, as it is one of the ways in which the other employees of the organizations will be motivated to learn for the benefit of the organization (Gallos and Schein, p61-120).
From the above analysis, it has been established that training programs are part of the ingredients that are needed in achieving organizational development. The reason as to why training programs are crucial in the organization is because they enable individuals working in the organizations to acquire new knowledge, on the ways in which they can carry out the business activities of the organization. The new knowledge acquired will in turn change the beliefs and values as well as many other aspects of individuals, which are essential in adapting to the adopting to the changes in the business environment.
