2.1 The terms and conditions of my contract of employment are: Place of work

2.3 In the event of a grievance, the procedure would follow would be to speak to my manager if I thought it could be dealt with informally, otherwise I would submit a formal written grievance to the manager, If I am unsatisfied with the outcome I would then tell the manager I was unhappy with the outcome and that I wish to take the matter further and I would submit a formal written appeal to the specific person in the grievance outcome letter. Then the decision made at the appeal stage is final.

2.4 The personal information that must be kept up to date with my employer: My Name, Age and Living address should be kept up to date as my employer will need it for their employment records and to pay me my wages. My employer would also need to pass it onto HM revenues & customs so they can check who you are and that you’re paying your taxes and they also need my details so they could check them with the Criminal Records Bureau. My bank details should be kept up to date with my employer so that my payments still go into my bank. If my bank details are not up to date, my employer would be paying me but I wouldn’t be receiving my payment due to my bank details not matching my employers.

2.5 Some agreed ways of working with my employer include:
Data Protection – This is a use of methods such as file locking, disk mirroring and record locking to make sure the files are correct and assessable. Grievance Procedure – This is a way for all the employee’s to discuss any dissatisfaction that relates to their work. Conflict Management – This is limiting the negative conflict while increasing the positive aspects of conflict. Anti-discriminatory Practise – This describes the action taken to prevent and stop any form of discrimination against individual races and communities. Equality and Diversity – This promotes equal opportunities for every individual and gives them a chance to achieve their potential free from discrimination. Health and Safety – This is a policy put in place to keep everybody in the workplace safe and secure. The health and safety in the workplace act was put into place in 1974.

Outcome 3Understand how own role fits within the wider context of the sector.

3.1 My role as a trainee nursery nurse fits within the delivery of the service provided because I contribute to maintain a high quality caring environment. I work with the children completing duties such as washing, changing and feeding the children. I assist each individual child with their physical and emotional needs and provide adult interaction in the nursery. I work part of a team and I am aware of the nursery’s confidentiality policy. 3.2 The care I offer to the children by cleaning, feeding and changing them along with helping them learn though play and meeting their physical and emotional needs ensures that the needs of the service users are being met. 3.3 My role links to the wider sector as I establish a working relationship with other agencies such as social care workers and doctors. National occupational standards set out measurable performance outcomes that people are expected to achieve in their work. 3.4 The main roles and responsibilities of the representative bodies that influence the wider sector are: Professional and regulatory bodies – To safeguard the public interest. Sector skills councils – To improve learning supply.

Improve Productivity. Reduce skill gaps and shortages. Trade unions: To improve working conditons.
Ensure fair wages.
Improve communication between management and employee’s.

Outcome 4 Understand career pathways available within own and related sectors.

4.1 Some of the different types of occupational opportunities are: Social worker – A social worker works with people who have been socially excluded or that are experiencing a bad time. Their main role is to give support to their service users. Physiotherapist – A Physiotherapists work with individuals of all ages, couples and families to help them overcome any psychological or physical problems that they may have. Nurse – A nurse works with people of all different ages. There are many different types of nurses but every nurse’s main role is to be caring and nurse their patient back to health. Care home manager – A care home manager is responsible for running the day to day care home. They oversee all the activities throughout the day and they also make sure the patients are getting the good quality care they need. Dementia nurse – A dementia nurse works with patients with dementia and also their families. They work together with other professionals that work with the patient’s family to help them cope with looking after a person with dementia.

4.3 I am currently a trainee nursery nurse completing my level 2 NVQ in childcare, I then would like complete my NVQ level 3 in childcare. After that I would like to achieve my postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) so I could then pursue my career into teaching special needs children in
schools.

Outcome 5 Understand how issues of public concern may affect the image and delivery of services in the sector.

5.1 There has been a lot of occasions where the public have raised concerns regarding issues within the sector, one of these were the lack of staff and care in hospitals. In the news recently was the story of 76 year old Margarita Evans, who went into Tameside hospital as she has Alzheimer and dementia and needed treatment. She was left on a hospital trolley in the corridor of Accident and emergency for over 1 hour and when she had to repeatedly ask to be taken to the toilet, she was told “we haven’t got enough staff to take you” and was handed a nappy. Another case that raised public concern was the Daniel Pelka case. Daniel was a 4 year old boy who was being repeatedly beaten by his mother and stepfather, the police were called to his house 26 times in result of Daniel’s parents fighting in front of the child, But Daniel went unnoticed and so did his abuse until he died aged 4 weighing 1 stone 7 pounds from being starved and malnourished, abused and neglected. 5.2 Baby P was a 17 month old baby boy who suffered abuse from his mother and stepfather for 8 months. He was repeatedly beaten until he eventually died from a blow to his head that stopped him breathing. The doctors and social workers missed many of the signs of abuse and neglect which led to baby P’s death. This caused a lot of concern for the public as they were left wondering why nothing was done to prevent Baby P’s death.

Baby P’s saw his GP 14 times before his death where he examined his bruising, but never did a full body examination because he was tired and cranky. His social worker found 12 accounts of bruising to his body and reported it to the police. The police found a family friend to look after baby P while his mother and stepfather were arrested twice, released and allowed to have baby P back in their care. I think it is a very difficult task to predict whether or not a child is being abused and the bruises on baby P’s body could have looked a lot like accidental bruises from him falling over, but in my opinion I think that the police, doctors and social services could of done a lot more to protect baby P. They could have organised more unexpected home visits, they also could have organised for baby P to have regular check-ups every 4 weeks or so. An alternative option for social services would have been to put baby P in care at the first sign of him being in danger.

5. 3 The baby P and cases similar to his have altered the public views related to the sector because I think the public have lost faith in the system and social services, because nothing was done to prevent baby P from harm and they didn’t learn from their mistakes. Khyra Ishaq, Victoria Climbie, Peter Connelly and Daniel Pelka are all children that the social services have failed to protect. Child abuse was happening again and again and nothing was being done to prevent it. The TV and social network media lets the public know what has and has not been done since the last case, and if nothing has been done or changed, the public are not going to want to put their faith back into it.

5.4 There has been some recent changes to the service delivery which have affected my work as a trainee nursery nurse, these are: Changes to the childcare service:

The Adult to child ratio for 2 year olds at the moment is 1:4 (1 adult to 4 children). The government are currently trying to change that ratio to 1:6 (1 adult to 6 children) A new progress check is now required for every child at the age of 2 to review the child’s development. This links with the health check that is carried out by a health visitor. This has been put in place so that children can get any extra support they may need before
starting school.
