Unit two: Lab Questions 1. What does self – enhancing bias mean? That you tend to think you are “above average” or better than others in many ways. 2. Report your results from this experiment. About 75% of the time I was concerned as much as others where on most issues. 3. Did your results follow a pattern? Explain your answer. My results followed the pattern of about 30% who took the quiz who thought they were concerned as much as others. 4. If results did follow a pattern, do you think you were demonstrating self-enhancement or do you believe you really are more socially concerned than others?
I don’t feel like I was more concerned than others, I feel I was just an average person who shows concern, but not like starting my own charities and foundations kind of person. 5. Why do you think so many people show the self-enhancement phenomenon? Because they want to try and prove to others they really do care, and maybe to feel good about themselves. 6. What are the pros and cons of this behavior? Pros would be more people would focus on a certain issue or cause and maybe attract others to help with it.
Cons would be getting cocky about a certain issue and thinking you are a superhuman or higher above others just because you donated or somehow showed more concern than others. My total score was a 16 (near the 75th percentile), which means my anxiety level is about average. . If you scored high on the ranking, do you feel you are overreacting to events in your life, or do you think things are happening in your life that justify an unusual amount of anxiety? Didn’t score high. 3. If you scored low on the ranking, what coping mechanisms do you exercise to handle stress? I try not to overthink things, and try to just focus on what is going on at the moment. Also I try to always be doing something, whether it is listing to music, or on my phone because when I stop and just start thinking about things, that’s when I start overthinking.

According to the test, how concerned are you about your shyness? What are your thoughts about the test? The test said my shyness is only occasional and may not be a serious concern for me. 2. How do people define shyness? By not talking, or looking down a lot and being very quite. Also having very short answers. 3. What and who makes you shy?
No one really except maybe like a really scary guy, or some beautiful woman. 4. How can shyness be reduced? By becoming confident with yourself, and by not caring what other people think of you. Learning Objective: To understand the situations that make you feel angry or hurt by completing a short self-test. 1. What is the test called? What Provokes You. 2. Report what situations make you the most angry. Being lied to and having someone start roughing me during a sport. 3. Report what situations make you the most hurt.
Having a spouse telling me we need space, or having a friend talk about me behind my back. 4. What does standard deviation mean? It is a calculated quantity to indicate the extent of a group as a whole (so men vs. women would be an example. ) 5. Where does your score fall in relation to the standard deviation of the test? I get a little more angry and hurt than most men who have taken the quiz. 6. Looking at the study, why do you think women reported more hurtful situations? I think it is because they are more emotional than men are.
7. What did the test show about the order of the questions? e. g. , hurt, anger) Do you think this order influenced your score? Explain your answer. It showed I was more angry than I was hurt. Explain the connection between your decision and the results of the study. My decision was to deny it.
The study states that the lack of trust makes it very difficult for both to cooperate the same. 2. What was the total between you and Donna? What did you need to do to improve your score? We both got an 18. I should of cooperated more and I would of got a higher payout. 3. How would knowing the person for many years improve your score? If I knew the person for many years then I could of guessed based on my judgment of the person and if they would give in easily, or if they would stick to there word. 4. What psychological lesson was this activity trying to present? What I got out of this lesson was that confessing is always the way to go.
