The word is more misused than properly defined and understood. There is no scientific definition for the word. The biological and behavioral features were considered the direct creation of God and it resulted in perceived purity of some races and impurity of some. It was only a perception. It was neither scientific nor acceptable to all.
‘Race’ has impeded human progress for centuries. Racialism has laid its ugly mark on the history of United States. Many inhuman atrocities on some people on the basis of their belonging to a different race have made the concept of race contemptible and controversial. The racist policies in United States have led to a clear division of society based on the color of their skin. The inexpressible suffering of the black people created more pressure in society which has led to abolition of slavery. Mostly the slaves belonged to the native tribes who were considered inferior by their appearance and their race. Discrimination of people on the basis of their race has led to many clashes between the whites and blacks in the United States.
Many killings of the innocent people even in the present times have their roots in racist feelings. The ill-will and the restlessness in the people will only worsen causing further hatred among people in the community. In short, the concept of race and the feelings that have stemmed out of that concept have created problems of instability and social unrest in the American society.
