    What Is Reflective Practice?
Reflective practice helps social workers to develop an understanding of practice events. Group sessions may lead to action in certain cases, but that is not the main goal of the reflective process; instead, developing understanding in the context of a supportive peer group makes it easier for social workers to admit feelings of frailty, failure and personal vulnerability. It is a “safe” space in which to talk without fear of repercussion – and this can dramatically reduce work-related stress. Supervision, on the other hand, is vulnerable to the tension between supporting the social worker and managing their performance Why Is Reflective Practice Important?

One of the reasons why reflective practice is so important for social workers is that no amount of training can completely prepare a social worker for the requirements of their profession over the course of their entire career. For example, the context of a client’s problem in one decade will almost certainly be very different in another, which means that the client will need to have access to a social worker whose particular experience can take into account this new context.

Meanwhile the social worker might be stuck in a set of processes and routines from a decade ago (or further back), which means that the social worker will either be unable to help the client or, worse, will attempt to impose an outdated and ultimately useless set of rules that might even cause more damage than they resolve. How Reflective Practice Contributes To Improving The Quality Of Service Provision. Reflective practice contributes to improving the quality of service provision as the care sector constantly revises policies and procedures and new standards are constantly being set. Care workers are to keep up to date on any revision of policies, procedures and standards to enable them to do their job to the quality expected of them.

How Standards Can Be Used To Help A Social Care Worker Reflect On Their
Practice. Standards help social care workers so they work in the same level as other social care workers or even their peers! It helps standardised the service they are giving. By having a standard, they can always reflect with it and achieve the same standardised level. You need to know the standards to understand what is expected of you as a health and social care worker, and then you should reflect to ensure you are meeting these standards, these would be the CQC ESQS and your code of practice which are found in the managers office and in each staff office. All codes of practice should be adhered to at all times. Aii

Why It Is Important For A Social Care Worker To Seek Feedback On Performance. Obviously one reason why everyone wants feedback is to pursue improvement. In a social care worker’s case, they need feedback so they can serve the community better. They might be able to find alternatives and new ideas so they can give more to the community. By giving feedbacks on their performance, it helps them to evaluate what should they stop doing or what should they constantly do The Different Ways That People May React To Receiving Constructive Feedback People may react differently to constructive feedback. Some may not agree and see the feedback as negative, where it is meant to help them improve their practice. Others accept feedback positively and work to improve their practice listening to and taking in advice. Some people may take the feedback but not work to improve on anything so stay at the same level. It is important for social care workers to use their feedback to improve their practice, to help them become the best.
