Despite a challenging childhood, I left home at ten years old to pursue my education. Growing up in the countryside influenced my kind and honest nature, as well as teaching me to approach life’s difficulties with optimism. These experiences have become invaluable assets that have allowed me to lead a vibrant and fulfilling college life.
I have always taken on leadership roles in student activities during my time in college. As the monitor of HE-Zhijun Honored Class, I successfully organized several research seminars specifically for this class. Additionally, as the chairman of the Student Union in the College of Computer Science, I was responsible for various tasks, such as organizing the graduation party, coordinating social practice activities, and hosting competitions like ACM. My exceptional leadership skills and strong organizational abilities consistently ensure efficient teamwork within my teams.
As a result of my outstanding achievements, I received numerous accolades from both the college and school. This includes being honored as an Excellent Cadre of Students on three separate occasions. These leadership positions provided me with valuable insights into the importance of effective planning, communication, and collaboration. Furthermore, I want to emphasize my entrepreneurial experience. While studying engineering at Zhejiang University during my sophomore year, I took part in the Intensive Training Program of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This program served as my initial exposure to the realm of business.
This program gave me numerous opportunities to learn about business through different courses and interactions with entrepreneurs. During the 3rd Zhejiang University Trilogy Competition, where participants had to present their startup ideas in one minute, I pitched my concept of creating an information system for logistic companies to the venture capital judges and ultimately became the champion. Nevertheless, I realized that practical skills are more crucial for entrepreneurs than just having innovative ideas.
During my summer vacation, I spent two months researching the user requirements of logistic companies. Recognizing that informationization is a prevailing trend in China’s logistics industry, I took charge of leading a team to create an ERP system tailored for these companies. Our dedication and persistence paid off after nine months when our product received the 1st Prize in the 8th Zhejiang Province Undergraduate Technological Innovation Competition and the Silver Award in the 8th National Competition.
As I began my entrepreneurial journey, I faced both difficulties and successes in applying my academic knowledge to solving real-life problems. This direct experience strengthened my resolve to deepen my understanding by pursuing a PhD. Acknowledging the importance of effective communication for overall progress, I am enthusiastic about sharing my fascinating experiences and ideas while immersing myself in the diverse international environment at Minnesota.
My diverse life experiences and interdisciplinary background, coupled with my optimistic attitude, can positively influence my schoolmates and contribute to the diversity at Minnesota. Additionally, I firmly believe that if given the chance, I will be an invaluable alumnus for Minnesota. My aspiration is to dedicate my life to applying my knowledge in order to address real-world issues and strive towards developing innovative technology that propels societal development. I have full confidence in my ability to tackle future challenges and make a lasting impact.
