My Mission In My Social And Academic Life As A Pre-dental Student

Table of Content

A warm smile is the universal language for love, kindness, and beats. Having a passion for dentistry, I understand the importance of smile and to bring the smile on someone else faces. Good Oral Hygiene is the most and first important step to the perfect smile. My decision to become a dentist did not come in a moment of blinding revelation. It came from my experiences at home with my mother beginning in the fifth grade. Growing up, my mother used to replace all the scientific medicine with home-made medicine.

Every time anyone in the family got sick or suffered through a cold my mom preferred honey water or turmeric water rather than NSAIDs drugs like Advil, Tylenol and so on. It sparked my interest in exploring medical field. Also, my dad inspired me when I was a child. He always used to give back to his community selflessly and while I was growing up; I knew I wanted to do something like he did. Living a comfortable life without a real purpose is not what I want. I want to use my hand for services and bring a smile to the faces of people which I encounter daily.

With a strong interest in medical/dental field, I am continuing my studies at the Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland as a chemistry major with -American Chemistry Society (ACS) certification. Currently, I’m taking various subjects, physics, calculus, public speaking and organic chemistry, which will be useful for Dentistry. It provides a good command of the Dental discipline and good communication skills for understanding and dealing with patients. I particularly enjoy the practical side to my chemistry lessons because I get to make thing sparkle, fizz, bang and pretty colors.

Besides my studies, my greatest passion is tennis which has immensely improved my hand- to- eye coordination and reflexes. I have been playing tennis since I was 13. I am always motivated to attend training sessions to improve eye coordination technique. Also, I am learning how to sew by hand and knitting clothes and dolls with my grandmother who has a small family tailor business. Sewing by hand requires both fingers and brain, and more importantly, it requires the two to work together which improves my coordination. Lastly, what I will do as a dentist in the future will build upon the efforts I will demonstrate in college and being a part of Summer Health Professions Education Program will really help me in near future.

My mission will be to change people’s lives and smiles. I am not a Wonder Woman, but I am one person who believes that the needs of the less fortunate should be overlooked, and I believe no family should live in fear of their child getting sick because they can’t afford health care. I hope SHPEP will allow me to make a through contribution to my social and academic life as a pre-dental student.
