Severn Culllis-Suzuki was born on November 30, 1979, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a Canadian environmental activist and speaker. When she was six, she carried signs with her first protests on them on Bernard Avenue. In grade four, she established an organization, the ECO, Environmental Children’s organization, where the children would teach each other about the environment. At age twelve, she successfully landed in U. S. A and presented the Earth Summit a speech warning the world not to harm the environment. In 2002, she graduated from Yale with a B.
S. in ecology. She is known by the name “The Girl Who Silenced The World for Five Minutes”. Severn Cullis-Suzuki put together an organization, the ECO, and ran it with her companions over years to raise money for supporting environmental matters. I believe it is a very extraordinary accomplishment, for it is not just winning a trophy. In order to have a victorious organization, you must follow various rules and character traits. Putting together an organization is a lot of hard work because you need to sacrifice and be perseverant.
It is very likely for most people to give up almost immediately facing such a big challenge. But Severn Suzuki took that challenge and showed perseverance and leadership. Secondly, it is difficult to get the organization working at the beginning. Everything starts off really messy and unorganized, but Severn Suzuki chose to be initiative and planned her activities very well. Most children do not care for anyone but themselves, but Severn Suzuki loved the environment and made an organization to prove it.
It is just unbelievable how a nine year old can show so much passion and enthusiasm towards the way we are living. Severn Suzuki was first introduced to publicity for her remarkable presentation given when she was twelve. She got the title” The Girl Who Silenced The World for Five Minutes” from this speech she gave. Severn Suzuki raised enough money to fly to U. S. A. and present the speech she longed to do. So she stood up there on the stage and begun to speak. When she first spoke, everyone was surprised.
The speech was so convincing and powerful, even I-normally never touched by any sort of oration-was completed enthralled by her speech when I watched her talk on YouTube. She brought up so many accurate points no one would have ever mentioned. She was so confident, and stood her ground so firmly, something I am always striving to do. When she finished, she received a standing ovation from the crowd. When I finished watching that video, I knew I wanted to be more like her. Firstly, Severn Suzuki makes an excellent role model because she shows all the character traits I am missing.
Secondly, she makes a magnificent role model because she is a person I can look up to. Lastly, she makes a great role model because I will always remember her. I will always remember the touching speech she gave, and how she inspired me. If I had not seen Severn Suzuki’s video on YouTube, I wouldn’t be as active in school as I am today. She is the one who taught me to be environmentally friendly. She is the voice in my head telling me to be confident. She is the inspiration that lead me down the road. This is why Severn Suzuki is my role model. I am willing to learn from her and be more like her.
