Claude Monet is one of the most famous artists in history. He was born in Paris, France in 1840, and his family moved to Le Havre when he was just a young boy. The move was not easy for Monet; he had a difficult time adjusting to life in the port town and suffered from health problems throughout his childhood.
Monet’s mother encouraged him to pursue art as a career, but he struggled in school and eventually dropped out at age 16. He moved back to Paris and began studying under renowned artist Eugene Delacroix at the Louvre Museum. Within a few years of starting his studies, Monet had developed a strong interest in painting outdoors using natural light instead of artificial studio lighting which was common practice at the time.
Monet met other artists who shared his passion for painting outdoors including Camille Pissarro and Alfred Sisley who would later become close friends with Monet on their journeys through Europe together after leaving Paris behind them forever once they were forced out by political unrest happening within the city limits at that time; this led to both men becoming founders of an emerging art movement known as Impressionism which would become popularized
