Confucius said that people should speak about themselves in a way that is humble and reserved. He said this because he believed it would allow them to be more personable and approachable. He also believed that this would make them more capable of helping others. Confucius said that it was important to talk about yourself in a way that does not make you seem too proud or arrogant, since this would not be a good example for others.
The story goes that when Confucius was on trial before the king of Wu, he was asked by the king why he had not mentioned his own virtues in his speech. Confucius replied that he had only stated facts about himself which could be verified by anyone who wanted to check them out. He also said that he did not want to appear arrogant or boastful by talking about his own virtues.
Philosopher did not believe in bragging about one’s accomplishments or skills. Instead, he said that people should focus on how they can help others succeed. This is important because if you are talking about yourself, then you must have knowledge of what other people need and desire. If you have this knowledge, then you can help them reach their goals more easily than someone who does not know what they are looking for but still wants to help them succeed anyway.
