Socrates said that evil is born from ignorance. This is a very simple explanation for something that is often talked about in a complicated manner.
In fact, Socrates was a famous Greek philosopher. He was the first to call himself a philosopher, which means “lover of wisdom”. Socrates’ belief was simple; he thought that people would do good things if they had the knowledge of what it was that they were doing. In other words, if someone did not know how to do something or why they should do it, then they would not do it.
The example used by Socrates was of an old man who must have been cold one day and decided to take a walk. He accidentally falls into a well and cannot get out because he does not know how to swim. The man dies because he did not know how to swim, therefore he could not save himself from drowning in the well. If he had known how to swim then he would have been able to save himself by swimming out of the well before it was too late.
Thus we can see that evil is born from ignorance or lack thereof because if we knew what we were doing then there would be no need for evil actions because we would just do good things instead.
