The University of New Mexico was established in 1891 as a land-grant university. It is the state’s flagship university and is the largest institution of higher education in New Mexico.
Actually, the university has a long history of scientific research that dates back to its origins as a land-grant institution, as well as a history of academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Its programs in fine arts, for example, have produced numerous artists who are now recognized internationally.
The school offers a wide range of degree programs through its 11 colleges, including liberal arts, engineering, business, fine arts and sciences. The university also has branches throughout the state, including at Gallup and Taos. UNM offers more than 300 degree programs that students can choose from to earn a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree. It has several research centers including the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies (SCAS) and the Institute for Social Research (ISR).
The University of New Mexico at Albuquerque (UNM Albuquerque) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees from more than 100 areas of study including business administration, engineering, law, medicine and nursing. UNM Albuquerque students also have access to one of the nation’s largest libraries with over 2 million volumes available through online databases like LexisNexis Academic Universe and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global.
