“The Outsiders” is the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a 14-year-old boy living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the main protagonist of the story. Ponyboy is a member of the Greasers, a street gang that fights with a rival group known as the Socs. He lives with his two brothers, who are also members of the Greasers; however, he does not know his real parents, who abandoned him when he was an infant and sent him to live with his two older brothers. In addition to being a Greaser, Ponyboy is also a high school student and works part time at the local grocery store. He harbors a secret love for Cherry Valance; however, due to class differences between their families—the Greasers come from low-income families while the Socs come from wealthy families—he feels unable to tell her about his feelings for her. When the Socs jump members of the Greasers one night at the local drive-in theater and beat them up badly, Ponyboy’s friend Johnny Cade decides enough is enough: it’s time for war. As tensions rise between the two groups, members of both gangs take sides and become involved in violent altercations until finally one night they clash in an all-out brawl.
