What Is It Doing to Us?
Every morning we wake up and the first thing most of us do is go on our phone and look at what is going on in social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and more are all social media accounts with which we surround our everyday lives. Social Media has taken over most of our lives. In our everyday lives we cannot go one second with looking at what just happened. We need to learn how to get our heads out of social media and out into the real world. Every second of everyday there is always something new going on in social media. Whether it be with someone famous or just something going on in the news. Social media controls our daily lives inside and out. It is the gateway to most of the drama in our lives. Social media is basically a drug in which we all consume twenty-four seven. There is always something in social media that everyone either wants or needs. What causes this problem is that everyone in the world has a want and everyone has a need and right now everyone wants and needs a distraction from their own life, that is why everyone connects to social media to escape from reality.
Is there really a right way to fix the social media situation? I do not believe there is; just because we are all caught up on it. Social media causes a lot of unnecessary drama that people follow and get caught up in. People like to depend on the drama and they like to thrive on it. Social media has people constantly using it as if it were some type of drug and people cannot get enough of it. Over the years, social media has increased in size by about almost 50% of user and gaining about over 1 million new users just in this year. Unfortunately, the size of new users is just going to increase, but of high depend to feed on what is new. We are always constantly on our phones or tablets or anything that will distract us from the outside world that is our owns. Everyone is always fascinated by everyone else rather than ourselves.
Social media used to be a way that people would talk, meet and share photos of each other, but over the years, social media has become this antagonistic place where people harass each other and get into fights over pathetic things. Lisa Horn once said “Everything you post on social media impacts your PERSONAL BRAND. How do you want to be known?” Lisa makes a good point because no matter where or what we post on the internet it is there forever. You may thing that just because you delete something that is it gone, but actually it is not. Everything you post, no matter how big or how small you may think it is, stays out on the internet forever. Every little thing you do on the internet will always be there.
Wi social media comes responsibility? You go outside and see kids has young has possibly eight to nine years’ old with fancy phones with social media accounts thinking they know everything about how the internet works. But what they do not know is how dangerous the internet can really be. They are hackers, stalkers and people who catfish everyone and anyone who they find interesting. With social media attracting more and more of a younger audience the world just needs to be a much safer place for them to be allowed on social media.
The world as we know is already an unsafe place to be in and for social media to be a factor of why it is unsafe is astonishing. People used to thing that social media was this safe place where you could just say what you want and nothing would happen, but that is not how it works anymore. Social media affects everything you do in your life. Jobs use social media to see how you act. Even colleges are starting to use social media because they do not want their college to have a bad reputation if they accept you. With social media comes responsibility that most of us are not ready for. In fact, with social comes so much information that we have no clue how to handle. Social has been part of mostly everybody’s lives as far as I could think of, but what really is the truth behind social media/ Most people would say they know, but no one knows the true purpose for social media. For most it is just a way to some fun.
