Based on your findings from the ecological footprint calculator, how many Earth’s would be needed to support the global population if everyone lived your same lifestyle? Additionally, describe the impacts on the Earth’s climate, biodiversity, and economic security if every individual in the world lived your same lifestyle and discuss why these impacts would occur. According to the footprint calculator we would need 4. 2 Planet Earths to provide enough resources if everyone lived the same lifestyle as me.
Ultimately, since we only have one Earth it is only a matter of time before all of the Earth’s resources would e used up, which would affect our animal and plant life. Based off of my chart my highest emission comes from services and then food. Since my services are mainly electricity we would need to build more power plants to support the amount of electricity everyone would use. Then we would also need more food processing centers to transport the amount of packaged meat, vegetables, and other food products to the local grocery stores.
All of this would require more land and resources than what can be produced at one time. This means that there is a certain amount of time that is needed for any plant and animal to grow. We would need the product before it is produced. Also producing the things I need to survive based on my footprint emits approximately 36,776 of co gas. This basically means the Earths air would be affected if we multiplied that number by every person on the planet. 2. Based on your findings from the ecological footprint calculator, what are the 3 everyday products and practices that contribute most to your environmental footprint?
The three products and practices that contribute to my environmental footprint are the consumption of meat products, the amount of electricity I use, and my lack of recycling. I currently have a house hold of four and as a whole we do consume a lot of meat products. I do not buy fresh foods simply because there more expensive. Our use of electricity seems like it is a lot due to the price. In actuality half of the day no one is home and usually the lights are on in one area at a time. Since I live in NYC I believe the cost for electricity is much higher. I am currently unable to recycle personally since I live in a building.
We do have a superintendent who separates the plastics, and glass from the regular garbage. 3. Based on the information from the reduce emissions section of the household emissions calculator, name at least 2 actions that you can take to limit your carbon emissions? Include in your answer the exact dollar savings and the weight of carbon dioxide that could be saved (from the calculator results) for each of these two actions. Two actions I can take to reduce my carbon emissions is washing my clothes in cold water instead of hot, and perform regular maintenance on my vehicle. I have to admit need to do research on washing clothes in cold water. Eve three boys and don’t think washing our clothes in cold water will kill the germs they bring home. According to the chart if I did so I would save 204 pounds of CO and $38 a year. I also know that I should have my car serviced more often than I normally do. Financially I cannot afford to service my car as much as the dealer says it should be serviced. Even though according to the chart would be saving 743 pounds of CO and $103 a year. Technically I should service my car twice as much as I normally do. Since I am currently behind on maintenance I would end up spending more than what I should be saving. Does reducing the size of your ecological footprint necessarily mean reducing your quality of life? Why or why not? Are there ways of enhancing your quality of life while lowering your environmental impact? Reducing the size of my ecological footprint does not mean the quality of my life will decrease. Some may say that it would actually enhance the quality of my life. For example, I could save money by washing my clothes in cold water (once I make sure that using this method will actually kill the germs attached to my clothes). Reducing the amount of meat products my family eats would be unofficial to us health wise.
