The Ethics Awareness Inventory is a tool that assists individuals in assessing their personal reflections. The College of Arts and Sciences (2003) states that it aids in comprehending the basic principles associated with one’s ethical standpoint, promoting group communication and decision-making. Upon completing the Ethics Awareness Inventory (EAI) assignment, I have determined that my ethical profile is mainly characterized by character and minimally by obligation. The EAI profile helps individuals recognize their own viewpoints on ethics. Personally and professionally, I have always believed in the principle that “right is right and wrong is wrong,” which guides my actions when confronted with moral dilemmas. Since enrolling at the University of Phoenix in 2009, I do not perceive that my educational experience has significantly influenced my ethical thinking. If anything, it has reinforced my character and broadened my knowledge by presenting alternative perspectives.
My perspective on outlook is significant to me because I want to avoid others limiting my potential. The Ethic Awareness Inventory profile determines which ethics perspectives align closely with an individual’s values. The scoring categories of C.O.R.E. (character, obligation, results, and equity) give insight into my ethical tendencies.
I scored a seven in character and a four in obligation. According to the ethical style assessment by The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management (2008), my character focuses on qualities such as honesty, wisdom, and integrity, prioritizing these over strict adherence to rules. I strongly agree with this assessment as it aligns with my belief in the importance of an individual’s character. However, it can be frustrating when others do not share the same values.
The assessment also reveals that my obligation style emphasizes the intrinsic value of all human beings and their right to respect as individuals. Therefore, I cannot support social norms or policies that deny individuals the opportunities they deserve as human beings. The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management (2008) emphasizes the importance of granting individuals the freedom to make their own choices within lawful and compassionate boundaries. However, it is frustrating that individuals may have different interpretations of what is considered right or wrong leading to differences in personal beliefs.
Engaging in self-assessments and self-reflections is crucial to comprehend our personal perspectives on ethics. While my current results coincide with my own beliefs, I anticipate them to offer further understanding into how individuals navigate ethical decisions when engaging with others.
